The Join Special Operations Command (JSOC) is a subordinate command of the Special Operations Command. JSOC has direct operational command over five Tier I Special Mission Units. These five SMUs are the most elite military units in the special forces and, therefore, the entire United States Armed Forces. They have been used both domestically and around the world for high-stakes and high-risk missions.

Task Force Green - Delta Force
Land-focused unit capable of unconventional warfare behind enemy lines and questionably-legal missions.

Task Force Blue - SEAL Team Six
Water-focused unit capable of unconventional warfare behind enemy lines.

Task Force White - 24th Special Tactics Squadron
Air-focused unit that is capable of pararescue, coordinating air operations by setting up airbases in remote or hostile locations, and seizing enemy air facilities.

Task Force Orange - Intelligence Support Activity
Covert-focused unit capable of conducting clandestine human intelligence missions and collecting actionable intelligence before, during, or after other JSOC missions.

Task Force Red - Regimental Reconnaissance Company

Air Mobility Special Forces
504​

The Air Mobility Special Forces include: fixed-wing pilots, rotary-wing pilots, crew chiefs/gunners, flight engineers, navigators, electronic warfare officers, and loadmasters. These specialists include the best pilots in the Army who enable Delta Force to deploy around the world. The other rates (crew chiefs/gunners, flight engineers etc.) have also been selected from amongst the best of the best.​

Special Forces Operators

The Special Forces Operators are the premier special forces of the United States Army and at least on par with the U.S. Navy SEALSs. These units are whom the term "Operator" originated for. They have been deployed behind enemy lines and conflict zones around the world. These operators are masters of the land and biomes the world over from the jungle, to the desert, and even the tundra. These units specialize in direct action, counter-terrorism, and unconventional warfare in hot warzones and even behind enemy lines.

Special Forces Reconnaissance Operators

The Special Forces Reconnaissance Operators have similar capabilities to the Special Forces Operators, but their specialty is in reconnaissance and observation. Whie they can conduct unconventional and direct action operations, they are uniquely trained to operate behind enemy lines for extended periods of time and not only survive, but thrive, while also gathering essential intelligence. These "Recon Operators" gather intelligence and also enable future Special Forces Operators by gathering intelligence on landing sites, enemy facilities, and even enemy positions.​

Clandestine Operators

The Clandestine Operators make up the most secretive squadron of the already "Top Secret" Delta Force unit. This unit is known to work with intelligence agencies outside of the Army and even the Department of Defense, such as the CIA. These operators are known to sometimes be plain-clothes or dressed as militants, and regularly operate without uniforms that identify them as American servicemen. They can be used for direct action, counter-terrorism, and unconventional warfare like other Delta Force operators, but they can also be used for abductions, assassinations, infiltrations, and other similar missions.​

Air Mobility Pilots
128​

The Air Mobility Pilots consist of Navy pilots who can also act as crewmen and gunners aboard the Blackhawk helicopters that are normally flown by the SEALs. They are considered to be amongst the best helicopter pilots in the Navy and deploy all over the world in order to carry SEALs into hostile territory. When the Air Mobility Pilots are not flying SEALs on missions, they are normally augmented by pilots and air crew from the Air Force's 24th Special Tactics Squadron, which is also in JSOC.​

Special Reconnaissance Operators
64​

The Reconnaissance Operators' mission is to scout, perform surveillance operations, and to gather intelligence, while being able to operate and thrive deep behind enemy lines for extended periods of time. The SEALs performing these reconnaissance missions are especially trained for long-term deployments in wilderness conditions with very little supplies. These missions can be peaceful and involve intelligence gathering for extended periods of time, or they could involve anything from setting up an ambush to preparing an attack on a facility a week before a major attack against it will take place.

Special Boat Operators

The Special Boat Operators drive and operate Special Operations Craft in marine environments. While they can be used to pick up stranded people in the water or to transport SEALs to vessels under dangerous situations, they more commonly transport SEALs to locations on the coast or up river, or extract them. The Special Boat Operators always have significant firepower at their disposal due to the weaponry available on the Special Operations Craft. All of these SEALs can drive and operate the watercraft and are also trained to fight in a maritime environment, including on a moving vessel.​

Submersed Delivery Divers
96​

The Submersed Delivery Divers are some of the best divers in the entire United States armed forces. The primary focus of their mission is delivering SEALs that are Special Warfare Operators. They operate SDVs (SEAL Delivery Vehicles) which are submersible vehicles that can be launched from submarines, some surface vessels, and land. While the divers are experts at operating SDVs, they are also SEALs that are fully capable of conducting operations, especially those involving underwater operations.​

Special Warfare Operators

The Special Warfare Operators are the primary deployable force of Task Force Blue. As the SEAL acronym implies, they are masters of operations on sea, air, and land. The Special Warfare Operators are expert divers that can perform underwater operations; they can act as paratroopers or perform HALO and HAHO jumps into hostile areas; they can conduct a variety of operations on the land; and they are trained to conduct a combination of the aforementioned operations during a single mission. These SEALs can operate in virtually any environment from the desert to the arctic, the jungle to the mountains, and anywhere between; however SEALs are in their element in the littoral zone of combat. Special Warfare Operators can be deployed on rescue missions, protection missions, destruction of critical infrastructure, retaking of critical infrastructure, and others.​

Training Specialists

Training Specialists are experienced active-duty SEALs who are there to train SEALs, other special forces, and sailors that want to join the Naval Special Warfare Development Group AKA SEAL Team Six. Training Specialists train new recruits and indoctrinate them with the traditions and culture of Task Force Blue.​

Combat Controllers
160​

The Combat Controllers are the most specialized, and yet, diversely trained units in the United States Air Force. The missions that Combat Controllers can range drastically. Sometimes they operate alone or with other units in the Air Force, while other times they can be attached to other special forces units. What the Combat Controllers are best known for is enemy airfield seizure, as well as being able to quickly bring an airfield into working order for United States and allied forces. To do this, the Combat Controllers are trained to perform a static line airdrop over an airbase, take the base through armed combat, and then set up independently operated air traffic control. All Combat Controllers are FAA certified air traffic controllers. These units could also drop into remote, non-hostile locations and set up a temporary airstrip with minimal aid, provided that they have the right equipment. Finally, the Combat Controllers also have many specialized skills that aren't commonly seen in the Air Force, such as diving, which allows them to infiltrate areas of denied control.​

Pararescuemen
80​

The Pararescuemen, affectionally referred to as "PJs", are the best trained search and rescue servicemen in the United States armed forces. Their mission is to be able to rescue injured or immobilized individuals from remote, wilderness, or hostile situations anywhere in the world. These units are not only trained paratroopers, but also have extensive medical training and are also very capable combat divers and soldiers. Their skills make them useful for military operations, but also for some civilian settings as well. Pararescuemen have been known to rescue anyone from the likes of stranded VIPs to other special forces that are stuck in a hostile location, behind enemy lines. In the past, these units have even been used to recover NASA capsules and astronauts in rough seas.

Special Reconnaissance

The Special Reconnaissance units, also known as "The Weathermen", are specifically trained to be able to operate behind enemy lines. As the name of their units implies, their mission requires them to be able to conduct cover reconnaissance in hostile locations. This kind of reconnaissance can include marking areas for air and missile strikes as well as scouting for areas to establish a landing strip or heliport. Uniquely, going back to their original formations, Special Reconnaissance units also provide meteorological data. They can also conduct search and rescue missions and conduct general intelligence operations in the wilderness and near enemy controlled areas.​

Tactical Air Control Party
64​

A Tactical Air Control Party is one or more airmen who make up a team that gathers intelligence and marks locations for air and missile strikes. These teams would normally be based with command staff or an area overlooking a battlefield to provide intelligence to aircraft, offshore-vessels, and attack helicopters. These units are experts at cartography and charting so that they can easily direct allied aircraft and accurately measure the distance between marked locations.​

MISSION​

The RRC's mission is to provide special reconnaissance for the Army's 75th Ranger Regiment, as well as for other JSOC units. The Regimental Reconnaissance Company is structured as part of the 75th Ranger Regiment, but it is a Tier I Special Mission Unit that is under JSOC. The company is small but is the best reconnaissance unit in the U.S. armed forces.​

Infantry
4​

The Infantry in each Recon Squad are composed of the most elite in the 75th Ranger Regiment. While the need for Infantry may not be as expected in a clandestine reconnaissance unit, they are there for everything from direct action, planning and executing limited surgical attacks, enabling tactical retreats, and brute manpower. Each Recon Squad has one Infantry Operator to provide heavy firepower and combat support.​

Joint Fire Support Specialist

Joint Fire Support Specialists play a critical role in coordinating and directing artillery and fire support during combat operations. They identify enemy targets and gather battlefield intelligence to guide the use of indirect fire weapons, such as cannons, rockets, and mortars. These specialists operate advanced communication systems to transmit target data, encode and decode messages, and assist in developing fire support plans. They use tools like laser range finders and targeting devices, as well as digital or manual methods, to accurately locate enemy positions. Each Recon Squad has one Joint Fire Support Specialist.

Combat Medic Specialist

Combat Medic Specialists deliver emergency medical treatment and limited primary care in both operational and clinical environments. They provide frontline medical support from the point of injury or illness through the full spectrum of military healthcare. On the battlefield, they serve as first responders, administering life-saving care to both combat and non-combat casualties during wartime and in other high-stress situations. They also support force health protection and oversee casualty evacuation when needed. Each Recon Squad has one Combat Medical Specialist.​

Signal Operations Support Specialist

Signal Operations Support Specialists are responsible for ensuring the setup, operation, and maintenance of communication systems. They install, configure, and troubleshoot tactical signal equipment, including radios, satellite systems, and data transmission devices. These specialists provide critical technical support to keep communication networks secure, stable, and operational in the field. They ensure that their squadron is able to maintain reliable communications during missions, enabling effective coordination and command. Each Recon Squadron has one Signal Operations Support Specialist.​

Electromagnetic Warfare Specialist

Electromagnetic Warfare Specialists conduct and support electronic warfare operations that disrupt or disable enemy electronic systems. They are trained to detect, identify, and locate sources of electromagnetic energy on the battlefield. Using specialized equipment and techniques, they apply electronic attack and protection strategies, such as jamming or deception, to control the electromagnetic spectrum and safeguard friendly systems. Their expertise plays a key role in modern warfare by reducing enemy capabilities and enhancing the squad's technological advantage. Each Recon Squadron has one Electromagnetic Warfare Specialist.​

Combat Engineer

Combat Engineers support combat operations by using engineering skills to enhance mobility, counter enemy mobility, and increase friendly survivability on the battlefield. They clear obstacles, detect and neutralize mines, and use explosives to remove barriers that hinder troop movement. Combat Engineers also construct defensive structures, fighting positions, and tactical obstacles, often under pressure in dynamic environments. Their work enables units to move freely, stay protected, and maintain the tactical advantage during missions. Each Recon Squadron has one Combat Engineer.​

Training Staff

The company's Training Staff provide crucial training to rangers who are already in the unit from continuing education to training new tactics and specialties. The Training Staff also evaluate and train new potential members of the company.​
