Structure and Organisation
The Imperial Navy is organised into several major commands and units, each with specific roles and capabilities:- Naval Action Force (Force d'Action Navale)
- The main combat force of the Imperial Navy, consisting of surface vessels such as aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, and amphibious assault ships.
- Naval Aviation (Aéronavale)
- Operates fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, providing air support for naval operations. The primary aircraft includes the Dassault Rafale M.
- Submarine Forces (Forces Sous-marines)
- Comprising nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs) and ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs), this force ensures strategic deterrence and underwater warfare capabilities.
- Naval Commandos (Commandos Marine)
- Special forces trained for maritime counter-terrorism, reconnaissance, and direct action missions.
- Maritime Gendarmerie (Gendarmerie Maritime)
