As the troops began their indoctrination, they would note the harshness of the training (and women would receive no handicaps or special treatment for their sex, either.) They would be drilled at late hours of the night, ordered to spend several hours each on silent sentry duty, put through fierce and difficult physical training exercises, intended to prepare them mentally, emotionally, and physically for the difficult and dangerous trials which they would face in the mountain warfare training course. They would also be drilled on pistoleership and hand-to-hand combat, to keep their memories sharp as well. By the the 2 days of indoctrination were up, these men were prepared for the real storm.

Once indoctrination was over, the troops were deployed to a village off the slope of Mont Blanc, where local alpine skiers and cross-country climbers would teach them survival skills regarding Alpine Areas, the first few days would be spent learning avalanche survival skills. They would learn several of the major guidelines to surviving an avalanche, especially with regards to tethering themselves to things, survival when being overtaken by an avalanche, as well as how to avoid them. Afterwards they would learn skills for creating a shelter to survive a whiteout, dealing with varying altitudes, low temperatures, and wilderness first aid.

After a mite of Alpine Survival Training, they would begin the arduous task of learning land navigation and mountaineering in the mountains surrounding Mont Blanc. They would be trained in such fields as orienteering, the use of landmarks (absent GPS) and maps to find their way through such an unforgiving environment. Furthermore, they would also be trained in the use of highly advanced GPS Systems in such an environment, as well as such important mobility and safety concerns as spotting possible loose snow drifts (an avalanche risk), possible snow chasms, glacier chasms, and other such risks to mobility and safety.
