MEXICAN PRESIDENT ARRIVES FOR STATE VISIT
May 2012 | Politics | Europe | Sar Martins Political Correspondent
Cristina Vargas the newly elected president of the United Mexican States landed earlier today at Rotterdam The Hague Airport. Under high security provided by the Royal Netherlands Constabulary she was escorted to Palace Noordeinde, where the King alongside a honour guard awaited President Vargas and her delegation. Upon her arrival at the palace both the Mexican and Dutch national anthems were played before she officially shook the hand of the King who welcomed her to the Netherlands.
Sources report that she will be meeting with the Minister-President to discuss a wide range of topics on how the two nations can work more closely together.

GOVERNMENT DENOUNCES VIOLENCE IN AUSTRALIA
May 2012 | Politics | Europe | Edward Philen Political Correspondent
A spokesperson for the Wald government has released a statement regarding the administration's stance on the situation in Australia. "The Dutch government, when asked to surrender their weapons by the Australian Federal Police complied with their request, while we understand the security concerns put forward by some nations, we state that never should the solution be to fire upon the police forces of the host nation. We do not condone the actions conducted by the Polish embassy security forces and encourage all nations to comply with the request and use dialogue and not force to come to a solution."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that they have put forward a request for additional security forces to be posted outside the Dutch missions in Australia to maintain the high standard of security.

SENATE REARRANGED
May 2012 | Politics | Europe | Sar Martins Political Correspondent
The upper house of the legislative body has been rearranged, the 12 provincial states have elected the 75 members of the senate. The election results are as follows: ONP (20), VVD (10), CDA (8), NCP (1), D66 (7), PVV (9), GroenLinks (5), PvdA (5), NSP (10).

The NCP (New Communist Party) has suffered a historic loss, while dominating the opposition in the house of representative they failed to gain any seats in the senate, leading many to believe that they are expected to make major losses in the national elections of 2014. Filling the gap of the NCP is the NSP (Dutch States Party), a party aimed to counter the ONP of Jack Wald they seek to form a republic free of monarchical influence.

TERRORISTS THREATEN INNOCENT CIVILIANS
July 2012 | Internal | Europe | Henriëtte Van Agthoven Security Correspondent
This morning we, and multiple other media outlets and newspapers, received an anonymous message demanding that the Dutch government pays $10,000,000.00 or else 100 British citizens are to be killed. A spokesperson for the Wald-Government said the following in response, "The Dutch government does not condone threats on innocent civilians from any nations. We have instructed our security services to increase their presence on the streets and prepare for any eventuality. We will be working closely with our partners and allies to identify those responsible for this threat. We call upon all civilians to be alert and report any suspicious activity."

We have seen the presence of Police and Marechaussee at the British diplomatic missions and popular tourist attractions. We will continue to keep you updated as more information comes in.

JACK WALD HOLDS PRESS CONFERENCE
September 2012 | Politics | Europe | Sar Martins Political Correspondent
This afternoon, Jack Wald took to the podium outside the Catshuis in The Hague, during which he said the following. "Ladies and Gentleman of the press. I stand before you as my government introduces two fresh bills to parliament. The Business, Economy & Tax Act 2012 will become the foundation of our continuing economic growth, ensuring that our consumers and businesses are protected and represented. As well as ensuring my and following governments remain responsible for our nations economy, through responsible fiscal policies.

In the coming days the Consular Security Act 2012 will also be submitted to parliament. Over the past few years we have seen to many incidents in regards to violence originating from embassies. It is clear that these buildings, supposed to be fostering diplomatic ties, have become havens for nations to deploy a small army, such as Egypt who had more than 100 vehicles parked outside its embassy in Tokyo, who knows how many security personnel they had deployed. Therefore my government has written the CSA-12 in order to protect the Netherlands and its citizens from danger. I am aware of what happened in Canberra earlier this year, and I can ensure you the Netherlands and the National Police will take a more diplomatic approach to the situation.

I call upon both the coalition and the opposition to debate, amend and pass these bills as quickly as possible, in order to safeguard our economic and diplomatic security."

This election will shape the Netherlands for the next decade. I call upon all of you to vote, vote in what you believe and ensure your voice is heard as we set a course for the future."

NETHERLANDS ACQUIRES SOVEREIGNTY OF FRENCH ISLANDS
January 2014 | Politics | Worldwide | Sar Martins Political Correspondent
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the government of the French Republic have signed and ratified a treaty which transfers the sovereignty of multiple French Overseas Territories to the the Netherlands. The Treaty of Philipsburg states the temporary transfer of sovereignty to guard the safety and well-being of the innocent inhabitants of the islands from the conflict between France and Argentina.

An official spokesperson states, "With this treaty this government aims to protect the sovereignty and stability of the islands and ensure the freedoms of its inhabitants. The Netherlands will respect the rights and traditions of the islands by allowing their continued local governance with little to no interference from the Netherlands. Our aim is to keep them out of this war while this government aims to lead peace negotiations between the two sides to bring a return to global stability and lower international tensions."

With elections just around the corner, polls are fluid as people closely analyse the handling of the situation by this government.
