| First Secretary Lyons, It has come to my attention that the department of my Ministry of National Defense known as Polish Defense Acquisitions has attempted to purchase eleven AV-8B Harrier IIs from the United States Government on good faith. I felt it necessary to write to you personally to say that we negotiated in good faith and were not aware, at the time, that the AV-8B Harrier II was solely owned by the British Government. We made a large defense purchase from the US Government at the same time and it must have slipped through the cracks as such things do when dealing with foreign governments and large purchases. The second part of this missive is to inquire as to purchasing these eleven aircraft for use with our Royal Navy directly from your government. |
