Estimado Sua Excelência Pedro da Gama.

I extend warm greetings from Bogota and from the joyous people of Colombia. It is of great honor to address you, the elected representative of the Portuguese Republic, a nation of which, as you have said, shares a rich history spanning back to the Age of Exploration. I eagerly believe, that both of our nations will see close cooperation in safeguarding the interests of our people in the international stage.

It is heartwarming to hear such words from you, and I wish to extend this back to the people of Portugal. Colombia is willing to support and back Portuguese interests here in South America in the interest of peace and stability, and likewise are eager to come into discussion to establish an offical relationship between our two nations.

As much as I would like to invite you here for merienda here at the Casa de Nariño, I am, regretfully, rather busy preparing for the Presidential Elections to be held next month. I do believe that the democratic process must continue unhindered, but I have faith in my people that they will select a proper stalwart leader that will echo what I have said in this message.

Nevertheless, I will extend my heartfelt gratitude to you and to the Portuguese Republic for reaching my office, and may I direct you, or perhaps your office or any equivalent, to contact the Cancillería, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by the esteemed Carolina Barco. I believe she will provide you and your office the proper details on the establishment of the official diplomatic relationship between our two nations.

I extend the hand of friendship from the Colombian people, and may this be the foundation for a prosperous future.
