Army Modernization Plan I
​

Lisbon:​

• Research and Development (R&D) Center:
  • Construct a new R&D center with specialized labs for the Air Force.
• Command and Control Center & New Headquarters:
  • Build a new, advanced facility to house the Headquarters of the Ministry and the Armed Forces
• Technology Integration at Lisbon Airbase:
  • Upgrade runways, hangars, and build new maintenance facilities.
• Logistics Hub:
  • Upgrade existing logistics facilities and implement RFID systems.
• Military Housing:
  • Renovate existing military housing and build new energy-efficient units.

Porto:​

• Naval Base Technology Upgrade:
  • Upgrade dockyard facilities and implement advanced surveillance, deepening of the naval base to allow more ships of bigger sizes.
• Research and Development (R&D) Center:
  • Construct a new R&D center with specialized labs for the Army.
• Renewable Energy at Porto Airbase:
  • Install solar panels and develop microgrid systems throughout the airbase, alongside energy-efficient generators.
• Training Facilities:
  • Upgrade existing training facilities and integrate new technologies.

Faro:​

• Airbase Infrastructure Upgrades:
  • Modernize runways, build new hangars, and implement smart maintenance facilities.
• Training Facilities for Specialized Units:

Aveiro:​

• Advanced Naval Research Facility:
  • Construct a state-of-the-art naval research facility in the city to develop technologies for the Navy.

  • Build a new joint training center to be used with other allied nations.
• Green Infrastructure Initiatives:
  • Implement sustainable practices and explore green energy solutions.

Coimbra:​

• Cybersecurity Center and Data Center:
  • Establish a dedicated powerful cybersecurity center.
• Medical Center at Coimbra Military Base:
  • Upgrade existing medical facilities or build a new medical center.
• Rural Operations Training Grounds:
  • Develop new training grounds for rural, cross country operations.

Army:​

1. Infantry Equipment:
   • Rifles and Sidearms:
     • Replace standard rifles with modern, modular assault rifles.
     • Upgrade sidearms to models with improved ergonomics and reliability.
   • Optics and Sighting Systems:
     • Integrate holographic sights and magnified optics for enhanced accuracy.
     • Equip soldiers with night vision devices for low-light operations.
   • Body Armor and Protective Gear:
     • Upgrade to lightweight, ballistic-resistant body armor.
     • Provide advanced helmets with integrated communication systems.
2. Armored Vehicles:
   • Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs):
     • Acquire new-generation APCs with improved protection and mobility.
3. Artillery:
   • Self-Propelled Artillery:
     • Introduce modern self-propelled artillery with longer ranges.
   • Towed Artillery:
     • Upgrade towed artillery for increased mobility and rapid deployment.
4. Communication Systems:
   • Secure Communication:
     • Implement encrypted communication systems for secure information exchange.

Navy:​

1. Surface Vessels:
   • Aircraft Carrier
     • Procure two Aircraft Carriers for power projection and reach.
   • Frigates :
     • Build more modern frigates. The Vasco da Gama and Bartolomeu Dias Classes, need each reach 20 Units.
   • Patrol Vessels:
     • Build more patrol vessels to ensure the Portuguese EEZ is controled and safe.
2. Submarines::
   • Acquire submarines with improved stealth capabilities and longer endurance.
3. Naval Aviation:
   • Maritime Patrol Aircraft:
     • Procure maritime patrol aircraft for anti-submarine warfare and surveillance.
4. Naval Weapons Systems:
   • Anti-Ship Missiles:
     • But costal anti-ship missiles for increased range and precision.
   • Air Defense Systems:
     • Upgrade naval air defense systems for protection against air threats.

Air Force:​

1. Fighter Aircraft:
   • Multi-Role Fighters:
     • Procure more modern multi-role fighters with advanced avionics and radar.
2. Transport and Tactical Aircraft:
   • Strategic Transport Aircraft:
     • Acquire new strategic transport aircraft for rapid deployment.
     • Upgrade existing tactical aircraft for versatility and efficiency.
3. Air Defense Systems:
   • Radar Systems:
     • Integrate advanced radar systems for early warning and target tracking.
   • Missile Defense Systems:
     • Upgrade ground-based air defense systems for enhanced protection.
