Subject: Red Sea
In light of recent events in the Red Sea, particularly the security threats impacting trade and stability in this critical region, Portugal is assessing our next steps and exploring potential coordinated responses. Given Britain’s established presence and interest in maritime security, we believe it would be beneficial to discuss our respective approaches and ideas. Portugal is keenly aware that disruptions in the Red Sea could have considerable implications for global shipping, economic stability, and security. In that spirit, we would welcome Britain’s insights on the situation and any planned responses. Our team has been exploring initial ideas for a multilateral approach, including enhanced joint patrols and intelligence-sharing networks between allies. We believe that an organized, cooperative presence would offer a strong deterrent and reassure stakeholders operating within these waters.
If agreeable, Portugal would be prepared to join Britain in a regional security task force to oversee these activities, with operational coordination managed in close contact. Additionally, we’d like to know if there are any specific areas where Britain sees an opportunity for Portugal to contribute, whether in logistical support, naval resources, or diplomatic channels. Please let us know your thoughts on a potential framework for our cooperation. I look forward to hearing Britain’s perspective and working together toward a secure and stable Red Sea region.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience.
Secretary of State,
Luis Amado
