| PROJECT INFORMATION | The Enns Valley Line Upgrade is a major electricity transmission modernisation project in western and central Austria. The project involves the comprehensive renewal of the existing 220 kV Enns Valley transmission line between Wagrain in Salzburg and Weißenbach near Liezen in Styria. The line originally entered service in 1949 and is considered critical to Austria’s energy transition and long-term electricity security, however, requires modernisation to ensure the line can meet future demand. The upgrade will significantly improve electricity transport capacity by replacing the existing single-conductor system with a modern double-bundle conductor system. This will increase grid efficiency, reduce bottlenecks, and support rising electrification. Furthermore, the project will be a key east–west transmission corridor enabling renewable electricity generated in one part of Austria to be transported nationwide. As part of the project 234 pylons will be replaced and upgraded as the 73.2km section of the line, whilst retaining the existing 220 kV voltage level. |
