| PROJECT NAME | Green Hydrogen Plant - Bruck an der Leitha |
| PROJECT COST | 700,000,000.00 |
| COMPLETION DATE | 22/09/2026 |
| PROJECT INFORMATION | The green hydrogen project will be constructed at Bruck an der Leitha in Lower Austria and will be one of the largest electrolysis facilities in Europe. The project forms part of the decarbonisation programme and Austria’s wider hydrogen transition strategy. The 140 MW electrolysis plant would produce around 23,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually using renewable electricity. Its primary objective is to decarbonise the Schwechat refinery near Vienna. The Hydrogen plant will cut refinery-related carbon emissions by approximately 150,000 tonnes annually, equivalent to around 10% of the refinery’s direct production emissions. The project is designed to strengthen Austria’s domestic hydrogen production capacity and reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels and fossil-derived hydrogen. In regard to water use, the plant is projected to require roughly 320,000 m³ of water annually, with around half returned for environmental or irrigation use. Additionally, a dedicated 22 km hydrogen pipeline connecting Bruck an der Leitha to the Schwechat refinery will be constructed. |
