| PROJECT INFORMATION | Though planned under the previous government as a projected phased expansion over 20 years, the Wien U-bahn Expansion incorporates these staged expansions into a single megaproject. The expansion will include extensions of the current U1, U2 and U6 lines, as well as the construction of a new U5 line. U1: The construction of 2 news stations, Oberlaaer Straße and Rothneusiedl, with a new terminus at Rothneusiedl. U2: A restructuring of the line south of Rathaus; Volktheater, Museums-quarter and Karlsplatz stations will be incorporated into U5. U2 will split from its current route from Rathaus station. A new station will be developed at Rathaus as it becomes an interchange between U2/U5. A new station at Neubaugasse to become a U3 interchange, and a new station at Pilgramgasse to become a U4 interchange. New full stations will be constructed at Reinprechtsdorfer Straße, Matzleinsdorfer Platz ( as an S-Bahn interchange), Gußriegelstraße and Wienerberg. U5: The current section of the U2 line between Karlsplatz and Rathaus will be reincorporated into the new U5 line. Fully new stations will be built at Frankhplatz, Arne-Karlsson-Park, Michelbeuern-AKH (as a U6 interchange), Elterleinplatz, Hernals, Dornbach, Schwarzenbergplatz, Rennweg, St. Marx, Arsenal, Gudrunstraße. U6: Fully new stations will be built at Werndlgasse, Brunner Straße/Krankenhaus Nord, Siemensstraße, Harnreitergasse, Kummergasse, Stammersdorf, Rendevousberg In total, 27 new stations will be built, including the upgrade of 4 stations to interchange/transfer stations. Approximately 24km of new underground railway will be constructed. Rollingstock: 70 new Type V trainsets for U1, U2 and U5, as well as 25 new T/T1 trainsets for U6 will be constructed. This will add an estimated 410 million additional annual passenger capacity to the Vienna U-bahn. Current U-Bahn Map U-Bahn Map Upon Completion |
