The first stage of the network will consist of a 17km line running from the city centre to industrial areas in the south of the city and a second stage consisting in a east-west line with another 14km, for a total of 31km with 39 stations. Blue Line (First stage) The 16.9km Blue Line runs south from Menelik Square to Kaliti with 22 stops (including the common section). Common section (first/second stage) The 2.7km common section runs from St. Lideta to Meskel Square, with 5 stops. Green Line (Second stage) The 17km Green Line runs east from Ayat to Tor Hailoch, with 23 stops (including the common section). The expected result is an improved commuting time for the dwellers of the city and a subsequent better quality of life, reduction of greenhouse-gas emissions and noise pollution through less car traffic, among other positive impacts on the city itself. |
