PROJECT INFORMATIONHaving tourism been identified as a key area of interest for the development of the service industry in Ethiopia, the Government has decided to give a significant boost to international tourism by improving the current state of the network of National Parks.

This program would include all parks administered by the federal government:

Abijatta-Shalla National Park
Alitash National Park
Awash National Park
Bale Mountains National Park
Gambela National Park
Kafta Sheraro National Park
Nech Sar National Park
Omo National Park
Simien Mountains National Park
Yangudi Rassa National Park

The money would be used to improve the current state of tourist and service infrastructure including (but not limited to):

- Better access roads and parking facilities
- Improvement and expansion of visitor centers
- Design, planning and construction of interpretation centers
- Improvement of roads and camping areas within the parks following environmental impact studies
- Training for guides and personnel
- More and better equipped and trained security personnel to counter poachers
- Increase budget and priority for conservation efforts for local flora and fauna
- Government grants and subsidies for construction of new hotels, restaurants and shops tos erve the tourist industry (all with environmental impact studies).

This program is expected to increase tourism nationwide as well as contribute to international nature conservation efforts.
