PROJECT INFORMATION | The Genale Dawa III hydroelectric power plant is part of the new "Ethiopian Renewable Energy Revolution" Project which is aimed at increasing the energy production based on renewable resources and creating an excess allowing energetic independence and export. It will be constructed on the Ganale Doria River in the Oromia of the country about 600km south of Addis ababa, and have a length of 110m and 456m width at its crest. It wil operate with three 84.7MW turbines and boast an installed capacity of 254MW once completed and operational. The dam will also have the secondary mission of providing irrigation from tis reservoir to the Lower Genale region, covering a total farmable land area of 15,000 hectares. The are is well known for it water scarcity. The corresponding environmental impact studies have been concluded and part of the investment money is being dedicated to relocating inhabitants living within the flooded area to lower the impact on local fauna. It will be operated by "Ethiopian Electric Power", a state owned public company. |
