PROJECTPublic Health Modernization Project
PROJECT COST4,000,000,000.00
COMPLETION DATE08/01/2023
PROJECT INFORMATIONThe central Government of Ethiopia has decided to tackle a major public health program to improve the current state, condition and services offered by the network of health institutions currently operated by the federal and provincial states.

On that regard, all small, medium and large public hospitals will receive investment destined to improve infrastructure and the quality and range of the offered health services.

Among other things:

- Available beds for hospitalizations would be increased
- Emergency rooms would be improved and expanded
- Medical equipment would be acquired to equip all facilities
- Assessment of required supplies and stocks would be conducted to rule out any future shortages
- A/C systems and filters would be upgraded as well as general sanitary conditions would be improved
- Facilities for medical and support personnel would be improved to allow for a better work environment
- Ambulances would be acquired and/or repaired
- Free training would be given to support and low complexity staff
- System of grants and scholarships would be given to doctors and nurses to allow improvement in their capacities

Separately, 800,000,000.00 USD from the overall costs would be used to build a new high complexity hospital hub ("Addis Ababa Central Hospital - AACH") in Addis Ababa, which will offer 1,200 beds and all modern state of the art procedures and services.

Finally wages for medical and support staff would be increased by up to 18% to stimulate the career path and attract qualified personnel from the private sector.
