| PROJECT INFORMATION | The Jaipur-Udaipur High-Speed Rail Corridor is a high-speed rail system spanning 397 kilometres across north-central India, passing through Tonk and Kota. The HSR system will enable electric trains to travel at speeds of roughly 250 km/h, reducing travel time between the cities from roughly 11 hours to an hour and a half. The estimated construction cost is $10,000,000 USD per kilometre, for a total cost of $3,970,000,000.00 USD. The rail type will be standard gauge, double track, and fully electrified. A fast rail corridor between these major northern cities directly integrates government operations with commercial centres, streamlining coordination, public service access, and business opportunities. While passenger transport will be the primary focus, the system will also allow fast freight and logistics, enabling perishable goods, light manufacturing components, and high-value exports to move rapidly between regions. Estimated freight capacity on mixed-use HSR trains will reach 900 tons per train. Reducing commuting time between these cities will allow professionals, civil servants, and skilled labourers to work in one city while living in another. Travel time reduction also makes day-trips feasible, promoting both domestic and foreign tourism. The corridor is projected to create approximately 26,000 direct construction jobs and 40,000 indirect jobs in logistics, food, lodging, security, resources, and related services. Upon completion, it is expected to generate 8,500 permanent jobs in rail operations, dispatch, electrical and track maintenance, security, station staffing, ticketing, and administration. |
