PROJECT NAME | Mandalay-Naypyidaw High-Speed Rail Corridor |
PROJECT COST | 4,624,000,000.00 |
COMPLETION DATE | 26/12/2025 |
PROJECT INFORMATION | The Mandalay-Naypyidaw High-Speed Rail Corridor is a high-speed rail line spanning 272 kilometers between Mandalay and Naypyidaw. The HSR system will enable electric trains to travel at speeds of roughly 250km/h, reducing the journey time between the cities from 4 hours to just over 1 hour. The estimated cost will be 17,000,000.00USD per kilometers, with a total cost of 4,624,000,000.00USD. Rail type will be standard gauge, double track, and electrified. A fast rail corridor between these cities directly integrates government operations with northern commerce, streamlining coordination, public service access, and business opportunities. While passengers will be the primary customer, this rail will also enable fast freight and logistics between the cities; meaning perishable goods, light manufacturing components, and high-value exports can move more rapidly between regions. Estimated freight capacity on HSR systems will reach 900 tons per train in mixed-used configurations. Reducing commuting distance between the two cities will allow professionals, civil servants, and skilled labourers to work in and around Mandalay/Naypyidaw while living in the opposite cities. Travel time reduction will also make day-trips feasibly, encouraging domestic and foreign tourism. The MNHSRC will itself will creation roughly 13,000 construction jobs, 20,000 indirect jobs (logistics, food, lodging, security, resources, etc.). Upon its completion, it will create an estimated 4,250 permanent jobs in rail operation and dispatch, electrical and track maintenance, security and station staff, ticketing and administration, and so on. |
