Public Tender - Nigerian National Railway Project

The Nigerian government would like to modernize its railway system. The proposed North-South Line would go through the cities of Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, Kaduna and Kano. It is approximately 840 km. The Nigerian government would like a double track system, using standard (1,420 mm) gauged tracks. Each train set should be of a modular design and hold up to 60 passengers per car, with each train package to be of up to 6 trains. The Nigerian Government expects the Line to be able to deliver speeds of up to 200km for passenger trains and 160km for cargo trains.

The Nigerian government would like an estimate of the cost of the railway project of this size, including labor costs for the railway, which will go through the Nigerian Railways Corporation, station design, which will go through the JULIUS BERGER NIGERIA Construction company.

The Nigerian Government would also like to include the price of the trains in the cost of the project.

Reeling from the success of it's own high-speed rail line that connected the entire nation, Trenitalia, Italy's high-speed railway operator, would place a bid of $6 billion dollars in order to commit to the construction of a railway project within Nigeria. Invitations would immediately be sent out for Nigerian officials involved with the project to visit Italy in order to ride the Milan to Salerno railway, a 800 kilometer journey that can be completed in just under four hours.

Turkey would Contact the Nigerian Government with its own offer for a brand new railway system. Turkey as of 1999 has the 23rd largest railway system in the world, a high speed rail(Exclusive in the Middle East) which is built to withstand high temperatures which would likely be present in Nigeria and the capability to build and operate the railway system under one government umbrella. Unfortunately Turkey does not have the capabilities to build a high speed rail system but would cut the
price of the high speed passenger rail system to around Two Billion USD. Labor would be a further 500 Million USD and finally Trains would come in at a total of 150 million USD.
In Turkey, ranking as the eighth country in commissioning high-speed railway operations in the world and the sixth in Europe, engineering and technological know-how has been improving and local companies have been implementing extremely successful projects in advanced railway investments. The benefits of a Turkish Built Railway sustem would be enormous and would give Nigeria Substantial Gains.
The Primary Train used would be the TCDD HT65000 though this train can only carry around ~34 passengers per car but this could be adjusted be much more packed at the cost of Passenger comfort to possibly 50 Per car.

However a high speed railway is not in our best interests at this time Our needs are a little more basic like an EMU series which can seat up to 60 passengers per car. If Trenitalia can offer something of this nature we can discuss the project further and hopefully in person.

I would like to personally thank you for your interest in our project. The price point is on the mark. However. a High Speed rail is a little too ambitious at the presently. We are looking to purchase Electric Multiple Unit Passenger trains that can seat 60 or more passengers. If the Turkish government can offer something of this nature we can discuss the project further.

Egypt has the first African and first Arab metro system. The Cairo Metro uses the standard gauge track, reaches 87km, and has one line, using the overhead electric line to power its trains.

It can transport millions of people daily. It has 47 trains, with a maximum speed of 80km an hour, has three units and 9 train cars each, and the entire line can transport 60,000 passengers an hour.
