So...I'm going to be frank. I'm fine with the lack of nuclear weapons in MN's world. I'm fine with it from an OOC perspective because it honestly takes out an overpowered weapon that was made as a deterrent for war. However...it's irking me that, when asked what the in-character/in-world reason is for nuclear weapons being disarmed and/or destroyed before 2001, that's where I'm drawing the line. When I asked in the discord chat (bad idea, I know), I was met with "Well, they simply didn't exist," or "they went poof." If either of these are the case, I would call that a lazy excuse that I feel doesn't do justice to the importance of nuclear weapons in the real world and, by extension, the 20th Century.
If nuclear weapons didn't exist, then how could World War 2 have been done and over with by 1945? How could the Soviet Union become a superpower contending with the United States without the aide of nuclear technologies? How could the very shape of modern warfare be defined without nuclear weapons, which were an integral part in armored vehicle design and NBC (literally Nuclear-Biological-Chemical) training? Furthermore, how could nuclear reactors, (which were only possible thanks to the Manhattan Project and German nuclear research) which are proven to exist in MN, exist at all? Saying that nuclear weapons didn't exist has a whole range of consequences that are far-reaching beyond their simple inception. They shaped the modern world...furthermore, the excuse that they just went "poof" angers me beyond belief, as it allows the people here to be content with lazy writing, something that I personally do enjoy seeing on a forum dedicated to crafting a nation and, by extension, a world.
So...let me be frank. I want an actual in-world explanation for why all nuclear weapons were disarmed. When did this happen, why did it happen...I just...I need to know, at this point, since it's irking me to a point where it's causing me to lash out at people who try to give me the lazy answer.
