Regarding Nuclear Weapons IC

So...I'm going to be frank. I'm fine with the lack of nuclear weapons in MN's world. I'm fine with it from an OOC perspective because it honestly takes out an overpowered weapon that was made as a deterrent for war. However...it's irking me that, when asked what the in-character/in-world reason is for nuclear weapons being disarmed and/or destroyed before 2001, that's where I'm drawing the line. When I asked in the discord chat (bad idea, I know), I was met with "Well, they simply didn't exist," or "they went poof." If either of these are the case, I would call that a lazy excuse that I feel doesn't do justice to the importance of nuclear weapons in the real world and, by extension, the 20th Century.

If nuclear weapons didn't exist, then how could World War 2 have been done and over with by 1945? How could the Soviet Union become a superpower contending with the United States without the aide of nuclear technologies? How could the very shape of modern warfare be defined without nuclear weapons, which were an integral part in armored vehicle design and NBC (literally Nuclear-Biological-Chemical) training? Furthermore, how could nuclear reactors, (which were only possible thanks to the Manhattan Project and German nuclear research) which are proven to exist in MN, exist at all? Saying that nuclear weapons didn't exist has a whole range of consequences that are far-reaching beyond their simple inception. They shaped the modern world...furthermore, the excuse that they just went "poof" angers me beyond belief, as it allows the people here to be content with lazy writing, something that I personally do enjoy seeing on a forum dedicated to crafting a nation and, by extension, a world.

So...let me be frank. I want an actual in-world explanation for why all nuclear weapons were disarmed. When did this happen, why did it happen...I just...I need to know, at this point, since it's irking me to a point where it's causing me to lash out at people who try to give me the lazy answer.

Hello @NagandEmerald

From an in-character level, the events of World War II which led to the formation of the United Nations led to discussions regarding the use of nuclear weapons and their impact after the atomic bombs used by the United States in Japan, given the impact of a nuclear weapon, the UN collectively enforced the strict ruling on any production of nuclear weapons, ensured countries were disarmed and compliantly destroying any remaining remnants of them which all countries, again, collectively agreed and maintained until this day, marking the effects of such weapons as to dangerous for humanity itself; only a tool for self-destruction.

As for the finer details, you're more than welcome to use your imagination for that, giving the IC timezone compared to the events you refer too, and the fact we're on an alternative earth, spending time going through every single event and finer details, isn't lazy writing, but more prioritising actual roleplay.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards,
Jamie

This is fine...I'm fine with this...but the big problem is that the Cold War still happened. Couldn't it have been surmised that, instead of a Limited Test Ban Treaty, it was an Arms Ban Treaty in 1963? There's also still the advent of the Cuban Missile Crisis, which can be acknowledged here as a canon timeline event, so there's no way that it could've happened directly after World War 2. Instead, why not have it as what I just stated: the Cuban Missile Crisis and the detonation of Soviet test weapons larger than 20 megatons causing an arms ban treaty to be created? It'd be a simple, easy way to do it, since ICBMs are still a thing, and the replacement of nukes with conventional, chemical, or biological warheads makes more sense.

Hello @NagandEmerald ,

I'll have to speak with the Staff Team in order to determine the exact time and date that Nuclear Weapons were disassembled on Modern Nations. We make a point, asking our Community to avoid the subject within game.

Kind Regards,
Hollie
