Royal Court Etiquette Guide


Of the Kingdom of Poland​

Issued by Royal Decree under His Majesty the King






I. Addressing the Royal Family​

To the Monarch​

  • Verbal Address (Formal): Wasza Królewska Mość (Your Majesty)
  • Written Address: Jego/Jej Królewska Mość, Król/Królowa Polski
  • Always bow/curtsy before and after an audience; do not initiate conversation unless prompted.

To Royal Princes and Princesses​

  • Style: Wasza Królewska Wysokość (Your Royal Highness)
  • Use full titles in formal speech and documents.

To the Queen Mother / Dowager Queen​

  • Treated with the same reverence as the reigning Queen.
  • Greet with a bow/curtsy and "Wasza Królewska Mość".





II. Court Manners and Conduct​

Entering the Presence of the Monarch​

  • Await herald’s permission before entering the throne room.
  • Bow (men) or curtsy (women) upon entry and departure.
  • Do not turn your back to the monarch; back away upon departure.

Speaking to the Monarch​

  • Speak only when addressed.
  • Keep responses concise and respectful.
  • Refrain from idle chatter; court language must be refined and dignified.





III. Attire Requirements​

Men​

  • Full dress uniform or court attire with sash and medals (if noble).
  • Black or navy tailcoat with gloves for civilians.
  • Sword permitted only if in military service.

Women​

  • Floor-length gown with modest neckline.
  • Gloves and tiara permitted (nobles); veil optional.
  • No bright or garish colors unless for state celebrations.





IV. Royal Events & Ceremonies​

1. Royal Audience​

  • Petitioners kneel upon approach.
  • Address begins with: "Wasza Królewska Mość, pokornie przedstawiam..." ("Your Majesty, I humbly present...")

2. Court Sessions (Sejm & Senate Observations)​

  • Nobles may observe when granted permission by the Crown.
  • Must wear formal robes and show silence during proceedings.

3. State Banquets​

  • Seating by rank and precedence.
  • Toasts begin with the monarch; guests only drink after the royal glass is raised.

4. Royal Weddings, Baptisms, and Funerals​

  • Full noble regalia required.
  • Attendants stand in procession by order of precedence.





V. Noble Duties at Court​

  • Attend seasonal court sessions in Warsaw.
  • Provide ceremonial guard or retinue when summoned.
  • Sponsor cultural events, feasts, or festivals in their estates.
  • Act as Royal Envoys when appointed by the Crown.
  • Sit on honorary advisory councils, commissions, or commissions of inquiry.





VI. Forbidden Conduct​

  • Never interrupt the monarch.
  • Never seat oneself in the monarch’s presence uninvited.
  • Never raise one’s voice, show back, or gesture aggressively.
  • Never display political banners or slogans within court grounds.





VII. Oaths of Loyalty​

All nobles, senators, and MPs must swear: "I pledge my life, estate, and honor to His Majesty the King of Poland, in obedience to the Crown and in service to the realm."
