The Sarajevo summit concluded, A 3 car convoy begun it's return from the Museum for his home in the Replika Srpska. In the middle vehicle Prime Minister Marković is sat in the backseat of the vehicle on his mobile phone.

"Be a good girl for your mother and go to sleep you two. I'll be back after you've gone to sleep"

His convoy rushed through red lights on the deserted night time streets of Sarajevo. The streets light only by streetlights and the flickering blue lights of the vehicles.

"I love you too. Good night"

He placed the mobile phone gently to his side. The tiredness of the meeting taking it's toll he closes his eyes to rest. The convoy continued to roll through the streets. The 3 blacked out SUV's the only vehicles on the streets. A few seconds turned into minutes as the PM caught up on much needed sleep.

A radio call startled the Prime Minister's driver, Ivan.

"Rear car, we have a suspicious vehicle behind us. Increase pace"

The convoy sped up. Ivan looked in his mirrors as a white van matched their new pace.

"Approaching a junction, keep the pace"

The first convoy car crossed through the junction, effortlessly clearing it. Ivan followed suite, looking left and right before approaching. It was clear. The car moved into the junction, allowing Ivan a clearer view left and right. He looked left clear, he looked right. A bright light startled Ivan as he slammed the wheel of the car to the left. Too late. The car crumpled up from the right hand side. The sound of crumpling metal filled the air as the SUV begun to roll over sideways. Ivan covered his head from the shattering glass. 1 roll, 2 roll, 3 roll. Eventually, a loud crash stopped the SUV as it rolled into a shop window. Ivan was upside down. Ivan paused, dazed and startled as gunfire erupted around him. He released his seat belt and fell to the ground. Outside the window, the first and rear convoy vehicles had paused. It's officers firing their weapons at the white van behind them and a lorry that had crashed into Ivan's SUV. Ivan turned to the Prime Minister

"Sir! Sir! Keep down sir! We'll get you out of here"

The Prime Minister groaned, the Minister was awake but barely breathing. Ivan looked back at his colleagues, one colleague was on the floor. Another now sprawled against his vehicle. Men wearing balaclava's approached them, firing single shots into their heads. Ivan, crawled forward the exit the vehicle. Pistol drawn and ready to fire. He cocked the gun as he crossed through the smashed windscreen, A second gun cocked, he looked up to see a masked man looking down at him. A AK47 aimed right at him. The man spoke, he sounded angry.

"Glory to Srpska, death to the traitors!"

A shot rung out as Ivan was paralysed to the floor. Warm fluid run down his legs as he begun to lose consciousness, The man squatted down aiming his weapon at the Prime Minister. A final gunshot rung out. Silence filled the air momentarily before the sound of sirens begun in the distance. The attackers begun to flee in their vehicles, shouting out in triumph "The traitor is dead! We're coming for the rest of you!". Ivan's eyes closed into blackness.

The blue streaks of light dazzled the street as police, fire and ambulance vehicles arrived at the scene. CPR was ongoing for the Prime Minister, and his bodyguards. Most were declared dead on arrival, but one sole survivor from the rear vehicle was blue lighted to the nearest trauma unit, in a critical condition.

The scene was one of devastation. The PM's SUV crumpled up through a shop window whilst the remaining two SUVs were riddled with bullet holes, their passengers either dead inside or dead outside.

Forensic officers arrived, setting up tents to block the views of the scene from the onlookers that were gathering, both the public and national/international press.

The President of Republika Srpska took to the Podium outside the Parliament.

"Citizens of Republika Srpska. I speak to you in dire circumstances. I can confirm that in the last few moments, just hours after signing a ground breaking peace plan. Prime Minister Marković has been brutally assassinated. 6 Police officers have been killed, whilst one remains in critical condition. We have no information presently on the perpetrators, but we will pursue all means to arrest those responsible. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victims."

Antea Ilić, President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina would also put out a public statement to the press.
"I am horrified to hear the recent murder of our colleague Prime Minister Marković. Violence will not be tolerated. We will support all efforts to bring those responsible to justice. My thoughts are with the family of the Prime Minister and the police officers."
