Dear Prime Minister Frederik Reinfeldt,
I wish to convey my regards and to address the recent aerial encounter involving Swedish Air Force aircraft over international airspace in close proximity to the territory of the Russian Federation.
The Russian Federation considers it essential that such matters be approached with restraint, mutual respect, and constructive dialogue. In this spirit, I propose that we hold a direct telephone conversation at the earliest mutually convenient time. This discussion would allow us to clarify the circumstances of the recent incident, avoid any potential misunderstandings, and reaffirm our shared interest in upholding the principles of international aviation safety.
Furthermore, I believe the present moment offers an opportunity to begin the formalities toward establishing full diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Sweden. Such a step would provide a stronger framework for communication, cooperation, and the peaceful resolution of any issues that may arise between our two nations.
I am mindful that Sweden has presently entered its general election period, and I express my respect for the democratic process underway. It is my view that calm, stability, and open communication will best serve the peoples of our two countries, as well as the wider region, during this period.
I look forward to your consideration of this proposal and to the opportunity to engage directly in the interests of clarity, cooperation, and the development of constructive relations.
