Parliament of South Africa
the Parliament of South Africa consists of two seperate houses the senate and the national assembly.
Senate
the senate or as it is more commonly known the national council of provinces is comprised of 90 members of parliament. elections are held typicaly every 5 years.
national assembly
the national assembly consists of 400 members also elected once every 5 years
political parties of south africa
there are 13 political parties in south africa with some being more popular than others. the most widely known party is the african national congress with a majority of seats in the national assembly (264) and in the national council of provinces (62) they are the current leading party. the next biggest party is that of the democratic alliance with a share of (67) national assembly seats and 13 senate seats. following the democratic alliance is the congress of the people with a share of 30 seats in the national assembly and 8 seats in the senate. most of the remaining parties have 4 seats, 3 seats,2 seats or one seat in the assembly respectively.
