Spanish Socialist Workers' Party leader Pedro Sánchez and Ciudadanos leader Albert Rivera announced a merger on Wednesday night, in a bid to establish a large political bloc to make sure that the People's Party do not take power in the elections. Sánchez' Socialist party is far stronger than Rivera' Ciudadanos party in the polls. Arithmetically, the agreement to rotate the prime ministership disproportionately benefits Rivera. Sánchez argued, however, that it would benefit all citizens by boosting the prospects of disallowing another conservative government.

Ciudadanos are rumoured to be appointing three further ministers to the cabinet.

Teresa Rodríguez, the deputy for Cádiz province has today submitted a bill to parliament which would authorise the return of the death penalty to Spain which has drawn support from her own party as well as other small parties. The last use of capital punishment in Spain took place on 27 September 1975 when two members of the armed Basque nationalist and separatist group ETA political-military and three members of the Revolutionary Antifascist Patriotic Front (FRAP) were shot dead by firing squads after having been convicted and sentenced to death by military tribunals for the murder of policemen and civil guards.

DEATH PENALTY RETURNS TO SPAIN

MADRID, SPAIN
Today, the Congress of Deputies has voted to allow the death penalty to return to Spain since it was abolished back in 1975. The chamber voted in favour by 186 to 184 with certain members calling for the vote to be scrapped all together and even some members have called it a shameful act to bring back into service. A source has provided that if a suspect has been convicted to death by a court then the case will be sent to the Supreme Court for a final verdict which can be overturned by the Supreme Court if it is found to have a lack of evidence on the case.

MADRID, SPAIN
An astonishing victory from the People's Party as they secure victory over the Spanish Socialist' Workers Party in the general election as the Sánchez government falls to the hands of the centre-right party. The new Prime Minister called it an "amazing victory" and promised a much better and brighter future ahead.

The new cabinet walk onto the stage and wave towards the cameras as the new Prime Minister had already selected his cabinet, a shocking sight was that former football manager Pep Guardiola had been handed the role of Minister of Culture and Sport without any previous political experience. Mariano Rajoy gestured to the media to ask any of the new cabinet members any questions.

Pedro Morenés took a microphone and looked over to the Russia Today reporter, offering a smile as he listened to the question being asked.

"Thank you for the question. The next couple of days will be spent here in Madrid as I get to know the staff at the Ministry of Defence and so I can appoint some more staff if needed. Then in the next couple of weeks, I will be heading to different bases around the country to visit personnel and to visit senior army, air force and navy officials. From my understanding, the army is on a steady progression but the navy and air force are still lacking behind but things will soon change over the coming weeks, months and years."

The journalist nodded while taking notes before asking another question “Do you have plans for joint cooperation with other nations?”

"To my knowledge, the previous government was going to be co-operating on a military level with the British Army but that fell through with them, who knows what the future will hold. It's too early on to say at this present time but the door will always be open to co-operate on a military level with any country around the world."
