Dear Mr President,

I extend to you the warmest greetings on behalf of the government and people of Spain. It is with a sincere spirit of goodwill and mutual respect that I write to propose an official visit to the United States of America and/or the Kingdom of Spain, aimed at restoring and revitalizing the friendship between our two nations.

I understand though there may have been recent strains in our diplomatic ties due to previous administrations, I am confident that we can look to the future with optimism and a shared determination to rebuild trust and collaboration.

An official visit would provide a meaningful opportunity for direct dialogue, reaffirming our commitment to peaceful relations and mutual understanding. It would also serve as a platform to identify new avenues for cooperation—in trade, security, climate initiatives and education.

I respectfully request your consideration in extending an invitation for this visit at a time convenient to your administration. My government and I are committed to engaging in constructive discussions and taking tangible steps to strengthen the ties that unite our nations. I look forward to hearing from you in the nearest future!

Warmest Regards,
Juan Carlos Mascarenas
Prime Minister, Kingdom of Spain

THE WHITE HOUSE

ENCRYPTED MESSAGE

TO: Juan Carlos Mascarenas, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Spain ( JamieA )
FROM: Benjamin V. Sinclair, President of the United States of America

Prime Minister,

Thank you for candid message. At the moment I am entertaining the Australia delegation for an Official Visit in Washington, so I am unable to grant your request for an Official Visit. However, I am glad to hear that your administration is interested in restarting the relationship between the United States and Spain. With your blessing, I would like to have Esteban De Leon continue to serve as the United States Ambassador to Spain. If you accept, we could set up a meeting between Ambassador De Leon and you as soon as possible to discuss the matters that you have brought up.

Respectfully,

Benjamin V. Sinclair
President of the United States

Ambassador Esteban De Leon continued to man his post at the American Embassy in Madrid along with his staff and the other members of the embassy. The State Department securely informed the ambassador that he was to continue representing the United States to Spain, and that the Spanish Prime Minister may want to meet with him soon. Ambassador De Leon's office reached out to the office of the Prime Minister and offered to set up a visit if the prime minister wished to see him. As the chief representative of the United States to Spain, the ambassador would of course be willing to meet with the prime minister if he so wished.

When Ambassador De Leon reached out to the Prime Minister’s office, the response was swift. Without delay, the Prime Minister personally arranged for a car to be sent to the U.S. embassy, ensuring the American delegation would be brought to the government headquarters within a timely manner.

Inside the conference room, preparations were already underway. The Spanish and American flags stood tall, draped over elegant gold posts, a quiet but powerful symbol of diplomacy. The Prime Minister and his closest advisors assembled, reviewing notes and exchanging a few final words before the guests arrived.

Elsewhere in the building, a press room was being readied. Local journalists filtered in, camera crews adjusted their angles, and the hum of anticipation grew. The plan was later that day, the Spanish Prime Minister and the U.S. Ambassador to give a joint press release on the new founding friendship between the two grand nations.

Ambassador De Leon gathered some documents in his suitcase and took the Spanish vehicle sent to the American Embassy along with a couple of senior members of his staff. He was wearing a dark blue suit and midnight-blue tie. His brown hair was slicked back and his teeth were pearly white. The ambassador looked over some final documents from the State Department as the vehicle was in route to meet with the Spanish Prime Minister. The relationship between Spain and the United States had been strained since the incident involving Puerto Rico and also the incident in the Oval Office involving the Spanish Ambassador.

Spanish Prime Minister Juan Carlos Mascarenas stood outside the Moncloa Palace, awaiting the arrival of the U.S. delegation. As the official vehicle approached, he adjusted his burgundy tie and cleared his throat with a discreet cough. Moments later, two Civil Guards stepped forward, opening the rear door to allow the American Ambassador and his staff to exit.

Standing tall, Prime Minister Mascarenas extended his hand with a firm, diplomatic gesture. "Welcome, Mr. Ambassador, to the Moncloa Palace" he said warmly. "I trust the Madrid traffic wasn’t too much of a burden?[/i]"

He paused to allow the Ambassador a moment to respond, then turned slightly and motioned for the delegation to follow him inside the palace. "Firstly I'd like to formally apologise on behalf of the Spanish Administration and the Spanish people of the attitude and the behaviour of the previous administration. This isn't something we aspire to do, I do hope this meeting will allow us to put the past experiences behind us and put a foot forward into continuing to grow the relations between our two fine nations"

Prime Minister Mascarenas paused briefly as he opened the door to the prepared conference room. Inside, a carefully arranged selection of Spanish and American refreshments awaited the delegation. With a courteous gesture, he invited the American party to take their seats.

Please, help yourselves to the refreshments,” he said, offering a polite smile. “Is there anything you’d like to raise before we begin?

He gave them a moment, then took his seat at the head of the table. Unbuttoning his blazer, he opened a notebook, ready to take notes alongside his advisors seated nearby.

"I could sit in traffic all day in Madrid and still be happier than an hour of traffic in New York," De Leon said to the Prime Minister with a genuine smile on his face. De Leon nodded at the prime minister's apology, though he didn't say anything in response as it was an awkward diplomatic incident that occurred years ago which the United States still did not have a solid understanding of. The Kingdom of Spain, a nation that could be trusted since the beginning of the Cold War, suddenly demanded out of nowhere that Puerto Rico of all places be returned to Spanish rule... It was still considered a diplomatic quagmire that American political scientists were pondering over.

De Leon, who was a closeted alcoholic, poured himself a double serving of whatever wine was available into a glass and then took a seat as he was invited to do so.

"Quite honestly," De Leon said, before taking a sip of wine, "I am interested to hear what you would like to discuss, Prime Minister. I am sure what I would like to bring up can wait," he said with a genuine smile.

De Leon's chief of staff took a seat as well and was taking detailed notes, but he was sure to leave out the fact that De Leon was drinking.
