It was an early morning rush in the city of Bilbao located in northern Spain, specifically at 07:00am when many people would be on their way to work and school children would be getting ready to head to the many schools scattered around the city but it wasn't going to be a normal day for the Mayor of Bilbao who lived in the Indautxu district of Bilbao. Ibon Areso was actually preparing to head to Vitoria-Gasteiz which was the de-facto capital city of the Basque Country which was a province in the north of Spain.
Ibon grabbed his work documents and made his way out to his vehicle, a SEAT Altea and waved goodbye to his wife and three children and drove away from the area, unknown to the Mayor, he was actually being tailed by a blacked out SEAT Alhambra with two occupants in the vehicle. They tailed their victim to a couple of blocks away and they pulled up outside a coffee shop and it was the Mayor who made his way into the shop and ordered himself a coffee and continued his journey to Vitoria-Gasteiz.
It soon hit 08:00am and the tailing SEAT Alhambra continued to stalk its victim whilst on the Autopista AP-68 highway and it was time to strike, one of the occupants in the Alhambra grabbed his loaded Heckler & Koch USP and fired a full magazine into the car in front, bullets hitting the back of the car, glass smashing everywhere and the back two tyres bursting sending the car spiralling into a ditch. The car soon made off at high speed, this was only the start. Traffic stopped and multiple emergency calls flooded and a response was on its way.
