Granxa Industrial Polygon

bomba-de-calor-geotermica-poligono-industrial-a-granxa.jpg

People are starting to going to work in the industrial park, a normal day of work, many already arrived at their work places and have started their normal daily working life. In a near by factory Antonio continues looking into a small paper sheet detailing the inventory of the warehouse, he notices something are missing and some other that need replacement, as he walks around alone in the warehouse, he flicks a light switch in a room filled with various things, some big, some small, some screws and some nails, various textiles and carpets. He notices that the switch lets go small sparks. He ignores it and shrugs it off, everything lets of spark now and then, he continues looking around all the objects for a while, writing it on his trust paper, and leaves the room. As he goes to flick the switch off and close the door a small whiff of burnt textiles waves through his nose. He gets curious, and starts looking again around the room, following the burnt smell. But finds nothing out of the ordinary. He decides to just go away and close the door, its 10:30 already and he is now craving a snack, he goes over to the vending machines and buys a Kit-Kat to settle his desire. As he is going back to another storage room opposite to the one he was in, he gets smacked by a wave of burnt smell...and heat.

He runs over to the storage room where he was, and grabs the handle frantically. Today it was not Antonio's lucky day, as he opens the windowless door with his full might, gigantic waves of fire surround him, almost like the fire was gasping for air as the door was opened. Antonio quickly falls down to his back, slightly burnt and injured but not dead. The Fire starts consuming everything around him, the room was hellish red, consumed by the the flames with the carpets and textiles serving as fuel. He crawls over to safety watching the flames start to consume the building, watching this dreaded heat around him was making him freeze, he looks over to find an fire extinguisher, another bad call in a critical situation, as the fire emergency switch was just a few meters next to it, he starts trying to put the fire out, but to no avail, he drops the can, and looks towards this gigantic titan of flames and smoke, raging around the halls and consuming the warehouse. He grabs his head in desperation and gasping for air and makes a decision... he starts walking away... there was no saving the building now, but there was time to save to people in it.

Eventually as Antonio yells for help, he finally hits the emergency switch, but the fire is to strong and already to big, the water just evaporates trying to cool the fire. More and more people run away from the building and stand outside looking towards hell it self. Antonio among them.

plant_fire.jpg
industrial-fire.jpg

The fire starts spreading towards other industrial buildings, catching fuel and other flammable materials, turning the industrial park into a combat zone, situated at the centre of hell it self. People trying to escape by any means they can, with explosions being heard all across the industrial park. Eventually the Fire Department arrives, but even the brave firefighters as they arrive to this hell zone, discover that the information given was far wrong to what they were facing, losing precious time in calling reinforcements. More and more firefighters and fire trucks and other fire fighting vehicles would arrive across the day, with the news of this gigantic fire reaching the news and being broadcast to the world. Around 2403 Firefighters were in constant combat with the flames, with fire trucks circulating between themselves to replenish their water tanks. The fight was just starting

In Madrid, the Government was being put at gun point for their blatant disregard for industrial safety regulations, and especially decreasing the budget of the National Firefighters and its own equipment. Fire was not only ravaging lives and buildings... but it was also ravaging the political system. In a few hours with so much accusations to the government and its blatantly disregard of the fire in Galicia, a vote of no-confidence in the Cortes Generales was quickly set up in record time and the Government ousted. Spain was in disarray, no government, no funds for fighting the fire, an a fire in a critical situation which could expand towards the city centre.

In the Government, a temporary government was being made consisting of the Second Strongest Party, the PSOE, the Center-Left Party, with Rafael Cortés as the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister would issue a press statement towards the neighbouring nations, like Portugal,France and Britain, and any others that wanted to help. It was not the time for arrogance or political games. Spain needed help as it could not fight this fire alone, not without what the previous government had done. The press statement was as follow;

"The situation in Galicia is in a critical situation, the industrial park cannot be saved, what can be saved are the lives of the Spanish people working there and their families living not far from the epicentre of the fire. The Spanish Emergency services are doing their hardest and their best at holding the fire and keeping a perimeter so it does not spread to the various villages and forests around it. But alone we cannot stop it, we just not have the means to stop it, and we are not ashamed to ask for help. It is also our concern that the fire might spread towards highly volatile fuels and chemicals present in the park. I hope we can receive as much assistance as possible. On behalf of Spain... Thank you."

The British Government have offered assets from the Gibraltar Fire Service to deploy in support of the Spanish Fire Authorities at Galicia. If the government ought to accept, it was requested that the Spanish Government allow a Royal Air Force C-17 to land in Galicia to deliver the fire trucks and appliances to save time as to avoid hours of driving time. Additionally, a chinook from the RAF would deploy with a firefighting bucket.
The other offered resources consisted of two fire crews which was two Pump Ladders and 8 firefighters to support the efforts.

The Spanish Government would grant permission for the British C-17 to depart from Gibraltar to Galicia to help in the fire efforts, details of it would be given to the British Government, and how horrifyingly it had become.
The Spanish Government would also accept any help the Argentine Government would provide.

V9e9ifd.png

The fire would continue to rage over the Industrial complex and around 4502 Firefighters, 243 Firetrucks along side tons of equipment to aid in the fire effort, the current situation is as follow, the Spanish Emergency Services have set up a perimeter around the industrial complex, however are losing their ground fast, even being December, the fire is getting stronger by consuming chemical products and other flammable, nothing that the cold can't help.
The Spanish firefighters would continue to use various techniques to hold off the fire in the most critical areas, preventing the best way they can from it reach the surrounding villages and forests. Explosions can still be heard across the red zone, with various fuel tanks exploding. Some firefighters have ventured into the red zone trying to safe civilians but death tolls continue to rise, especially on firefighters. Current death toll stands at ; 67 Civilians and 8 Firefighters.

The government continues to do the best it can by diverting various emergency services across Spain towards Galicia and towards the fire, without putting in danger the local populations from other services.

Due to the distance and long travel time from Argentina to Spain, it would be considered there was not enough time to dispatch first responders such as firefighters and paramedics. Instead, the Ministry of Defence would order to prepare the dispatch on an Argentine Air Force Boeing 767-300ER loaded with medical supplies, emergency survival kits, general medical equipment including stretchers, teams of Search and Rescue (with a rescue dog unit and their handlers), and a team of medics with specialists in treating burn patients.

----------------

The fully crewed and fueled 767-300ER from the 7th Strategic Airlift Squadron would depart once the cargo and passengers were secured. Departing from El Palomar it would flight directly to Santiago de Compostela Airport following route GF-GG-HG-HI-IJ-IL-IM-IN.

Aside form the cargo, there would be 55 passengers (32 SAR personnel with 6 dogs and 23 medical personnel).

The flight would be public and informed to the spanish authorities, requesting all clearences and permissions. It would take roughly 10 hours to arrive.

With the help coming from Argentina and Britain, the Spanish authorities would start to be relieved that help was on the way. Meanwhile in the epicentre of the fire, it was getting more critical as the fire was spreading towards forests and a chemical plant near by, if it reaches the chemical plant it could create a strong enough explosion to make the fire uncontrollable and with unimaginable proportions. The Spanish Authorities would relay to the British Forces which had arrived to deploy their equipment and personnel near the Forest of the right side of the industrial complex in the upper part, as it was important that it didn't consume the forest. Alongside the British help, more Spanish Emergency services would arrive raising it to 5023 Firefighters and 428 Firetrucks and more supplies, unfortunately the death toll would continue to rise as brave firefighters ventured into the complex to safe lives, so far 146 Civilians had been killed either by the fire or collapsing building... most being trapped in their cars, and 14 Firefighters were reported death and 3 missing in action. Equipment wise 4 fire trucks were destroyed with one being crushed from a collapsing building. It was rapidly becoming the deathliest fire in Spanish history. The Spanish Firefighters were managing to control the fire in the southern part and west part which were critical due to the big forest there and the vilages. However in the East and North side the fire was spreading faster than it could be put out, and it was reaching fast the chemical plant.

The Government of Sweden expressed there sincere concern for those effected by the fires and would like to provide support wherever possible - the Spanish government are asked whether they would like Sweden to assist in relieving stress on the Spanish medical system with establishing temporary triage units and field hospitals staging in appropriate and safe locations in order to tend to walking wounded and begin assisting Argentina in the search and recovery process? Whilst awaiting their response the Swedish Armed Forces Medical Centre, based in Gothenburg, are placed in a state of readiness for potential imminent deployment.

The Spanish Government would thank the Sweden for their help and would promptly would accept the Swedish help, it would be vastly important to relieve stress on the Spanish medical system, especially deploying closely by triage units to reduce the mortality risk of burnt victims. The Swedish would be informed that they could land in the same airport as the British and Argentinians were. Preperations would start being made to accomodate the Swedish medical personnel with the Spanish personnel. It would however inform the Swedish Government of the risks involving the fire, and how especially deathly it was, giving them the current death toll, more so in conjunction with the Chemical plant nearby which could be affected, an explosion would likely kill hundreds, but the location where the Spanish and Swedish Medical teams were going to be deployed would put them out of the extreme danger.

The Portuguese government, having recently known of the disaster it's neighbor is currently fighting, would offer its most severe condolences to those involved, as well as the victims of such an abhorrent event. The Portuguese government would notify the Spanish that two (2) of the Portuguese Airforce's AW101 Merlins would be offered to aid in search and rescue operations. The two would aid in surveying the general area, as well as provide airlift capabilities when needed.

Emergency services from the districts of Viana do Castelo, Villa Real, and Braganza would also be mobilized and sent to Galicia to aid the Spanish. Being Spain's closest neighbor, Portugal would try to make its way to help as fast as possible. Firefighters and paramedics would rush to their vehicles to help their Iberian neighbors. Sirens would be heard blasting through the streets as what seems to be a brigade made their way up north. As a sign of solidarity and friendship between the two Iberian nations, Portugal is sending all the help it could get. A fund campaign to garner $10,000,000 USD from the masses would be started, in a fashion similar to the one made during the massive Tsunami earlier this year.

1st Heavy Airlift Squadron

SECURE
Preparation
Prior to deployment a single Lockheed C-5B Galaxy from the Malmslätt Air Force Wing, 1st Heavy Airlift Squadron based in Malmen Air Base would be prepared in a secure apron within the air base where crews would begin the full conditioning of the aircraft with ensurances that it was cabale of reaching it's destination in a safe and amicable fashion. This aircraft was to be the first presence of Sweden in the Kingdom of Spain and the first publicly available deployment of humanitarian aide to a foreign state. The C-5B is an improved version of the C-5A. It incorporated all modifications and improvements made to the C-5A with improved wings, simplified landing gear, upgraded TF-39-GE-1C turbofan engines and updated avionics; it was capable of travelling almost 9,000km easily enough to make the distance between Sweden and Spain. This aircraft was perfect for the deployment of such a vast amount of equipment and personnel in one single flight.

Without undue delay the Armed Forces Medical Center would deploy the 1st Hospital Company from Gothnburg Base to join the Royal Air Force in Malmen for loading and takeoff.

Loaded into the aircraft, alongside eight URO VAMTAC Ambulances, would be adequate infrastructure for the creation of a temporary field hospital including collapsible beds, medical equipment and supplies, specialist equipment for the management of both heat-induced and chemical burns as well as an abundance of general supplies such as blood, water and foods essential to the development of Swedish Field Hospital (SFH) Tillflykt.

Once loaded, they would depart and fly direct to Santiago de Compostela Airport - it was preempted that the aircraft, requiring a landing run of 3,600ft, would easily be able to land on the 10,499ft runway at the destination. Flight path would be via JO > IN.

The Spanish would thank the Portuguese Government for all the help they are also providing, preparations would be made to accommodate the Portuguese Forces, and upon arrival the Portuguese Firefighters and equipment they would be directed towards the Southern Part of the Fire to prevent it from reaching the nearby Villages and Forests, it would, likewise with other nations involvement, inform the Portuguese of the danger that the fire is causing and share with them the emergency services death toll, the Spanish Government would like to make clear the risk that every personnel is taking, be it national or international.

The Portuguese Helicopters would be asked to work hand in hand with the Spanish Rescue Team and in future the Argentine Teams, meanwhile the British Helicopters with water buckets would be asked to focus on preventing the Forests on the east side from being affected from the fire, they would be given authorisation to pull water from nearby rivers, lakes and private and public pools. The Spanish firefighters would continue doing the best they could at culling the fire spread, but they were losing ground the chemical plant side, hence more forces would be diverted towards this side thanks to the international help being provided. Explosions would continue to be heard across the industrial complex and these explosions were getting bigger by the minute, being a especially big complex it accommodated a lot of workers and civilians which would mean a bigger death toll than normal. And given the distance to the closest hospital a lot of the injured turned to death due to the distance. Spain would also start to prepare temporary field hospitals in the location where the Swedish were going to deploy, their arrival would speed up the process and prevent more deaths.

Current Deathtoll:

187 Civilians
17 Firefighters

The fire would continue to spread across the industrial complex, especially near the chemical plant, the Spanish firefighters would watch in dismay as the fire was overrunning their combined efforts to stop it. Nothing could be done, they would radio over all units around the area to begin evacuating the best they could without giving their fire fronts no quarrel, the Swedish, Argentine,British and Portuguese would be informed of the imminent catastrophe. However their deployment zones where far enough that on their forces no deaths could occur, but injuries from the imminent blast and the possible fire storm. Not to mention that hundreds of civilians still trapped in the complex.

Bravely, a group of 24 firefighters, which would all know each other due to working together for a long time would stand their ground near the critical points of the chemical plant, those whose voices would echo in their radios for others to run away, as they stayed behind alongside their trusty fire trucks and pumps, to give more time for more civilians to be rescued around that area. There was no saving these brave men, they chose to stay behind because they were older, more experienced and veterans of various fires, they would force younger firefighters to run and live fulfilled lives and leave the old guard to do one last duty. They would run towards their locations again, divided in equal groups across the chemical plant, facing down the fire with brave eyes and with water in hand pushing it one last time away from the chemical plant, gaining just enough time to save more lives. The longer they fought, the harder it would get, intense heat would soon surround them one by one they would see their fellow countrymen vanish from their sight just few meters from them, the flames would start to gain ground. Radios would start to fail and jerk with just a faint hearing from the other, their last words to each other. "Adios me voy ahora" (I'm going now, good-bye.) would echo through their radios as each one fell bravely to the intense heat and exhaustion, saying the same phrase over...and over...and over, with no sadness or fear in their voices. They were saying it as they always did when they went home for the day.

Until just a group of 4 were left, right near the worst part of the plant, the part which could explode at any moment their water were running low, and their truck was already being consumed by the flames, soon they would have no water or means to defend against the fire, they would turn to each other holding firm, they would not break, the truck would crack and the water would stop before any of them did. Soon they would hear a hissing sound....and a cracking sound...a ripping sound. They would look to each other and finally say.

"Adios, me voy ahora..."

Bang.

"Chemical Plant has detonated, I repeat, Chemical Plant has detonated. Puma-1 coming in for a closer look over."

One of the Helicopter pilots would radio in to alert the crew on the ground. Being a search and rescue helicopter, her crew would try hard to find any survivors, although, that was being hopeful at this point. They would circle around the remains of the industrial complex, looking for any signs of life. Eventually, it would find the charred remains of firetrucks; burnt, and destroyed. They would remain clear of any explosive hazard, although they had to go near to start recovery efforts.

"This is Puma-1, everything's charred down there. We don't see anyone from up here, over." Dear God, he mumbles. While aware of the devastation that the fire has presented itself, he never really considered seeing it first-hand.

Portuguese firefighters would continue on controlling the flames on their assigned sector, men running back and forth to try and stop the flames. While they were handling it pretty smoothly, the explosion would catch them off-guard, a direct hit on their morale. Nonetheless, they would soldier on and carry on with their task. Additional reinforcements for paramedics would be called upon, as more ambulances would be called from Portugal. News reporters would quickly join in to cover the disaster, hoping to showcase the bravery of those involved.

The explosion would be gigantic, seen all across the combat zone, and felt to a massive shock wave would be felt by every firefighter as the saw the gigantic cloud of fire erupting from the ground, the closest ones, would drop down to the ground as the shock wave passed them, and the ones father would still feel it in their bodies. The flames would get stronger, invigorated by the blast of chemicals and fuel. Along side 24 firefighters dead, more civilian deaths would be reported, alongside some more firefighters. And many, many injured. The British and Portuguese could see the humongous ball of flame erupting in the distance, while their radios would get tons of white noise from it, some would most likely be injured, but none dead.

The Spanish search and rescue would report that the civilian casualties would be much greater if not for the sacrifice of a group of firefighters who stayed behind. Meanwhile the Portuguese Team while they flew over the explosion location, would see nothing but corpses, and destruction. The buildings around the plant where virtually gone, with just some walks and columns remaining. But the fire would still rage on.
In the vicinity of the explosion more Spanish Teams would arrive to search for any survivors in conjunction with the Portuguese, but the dead toll just kept increasing as they tried to find any survivor.

Around the complex, in the south part and West part the fire was starting to be contained by the combined efforts of all firefighters and their equipment, however with the explosion in the north the fire was uncontrollable without more men and more equipment it could engulf the rest of the complex.

The Chinook that was assigned to Spain had arrived and was assembled in Gibraltar. From that point, the aircrew of ZK1084 had begun their journey from Gibraltar to the nearest accessible airport to Galicia as part of the refueling. Once done, it would return to the skies and begin to fill its firefighting bucket from, as authorized, nearby rivers and the ocean to begin doing drops on the assigned area. Their role was to focus on preventing the forest becoming the next source of energy for the blaze. Losing this front would only act as a gateway for the fire to spread. Meanwhile, the C-17 had also boarded the two fire pumps and their crews to the same airport hosting the Chinook, disembarking the aircraft and the engines, lights and sirens, made their way to their 'frontline' which was assigned by the Spanish Fire Authority who were in overall command of the incident. Abiding any decisions set out by them, they were sure to set up attack lines and a water supply to hold their ground.

SFH Tillflykt

SECURE
Erection...
One landed at Santiago de Compostela Airport the Lockheed C-5B Galaxy from the Malmslätt Air Force Wing, 1st Heavy Airlift Squadron would immediately offload with the assistance of civilian grounds crew allowing the securing of the aircraft once complete. Whilst stationary on the apron the aircraft would clearly display the Swedish flag and would be secured on the ground my unarmed personnel donning Swedish Air Force uniforms. This is no way signified the untrustworthy relationship between Sweden and Spain and was strictly protocol to secure Swedish assets whilst abroad to prevent civilian breaches.

Meanwhile the Armed Forces Medical Center would waste no time mobilising, with all equipment, by road to the site of the inferno - they convoy would consist of exclusively eight URO VAMTAC Ambulances and the next objectives would come into play in line with the operational directive of Operation Alumina. The Department of Defence has identified a small open area on the other side of the River Louro, this comes following the monitoring of the spread of the fire and the natural border that the damp, dense foresty and river will provide for the security of the field hospital. This however came with consideration for the fact that emergency evacuation of the hospital itself may be required and the medical company deployed remained aware of this and cautious of the possibility throughout. Right now the focus was the countless lives being lost be lack of adequate medical facilities during the crisis.

The Spanish authorities are notified of the site, now dubbed Swedish Field Hospital (SFH) Tillflykt.

Upon arrival the hospital would be erected in record time, the team had spent days upon days rehearsing this procedure and were ready to go in a matter of hours. All participating nations were informed of the opening of the hospital and the immediate acceptance of casualties was to begin in order to preserve life and prevent any further serious harm.

With the help of the British and Portuguese alongside the Spanish firefighters and equipment the fire in the southern part was quickly being controlled and pushed back. In the meantime more live could be saved in time by the Swedish and Spanish medical teams due to the efficiency and speed of the Swedish in constructing a field hospital in record time, victims and rescued civilians would be directed to this hospital, and the Spanish would provide even more ambulances to carry the injured over. Exhausted firefighters from every nation involved would also be directed here for treatments and rest.

Meanwhile the zone where the explosion happen, it was becoming apparent that the fire was stating to lose some ground with the collective aid from all nations involved, with firefighters from Portugal and Britain helping in other fronts, the Spanish were free to mobilise more firefighters to this side which effectively was helping cull the fire spread. The Spanish Authorities would ask Britain if it could divert one of its helicopters to this side to work in conjunction with the Spanish Firefighters in dropping water in strategic areas to dull the fire spread.

The Swedish, Portuguese and Spanish rescue team were unfortunately finding more death bodies that live ones, and due to the identity of the fire, it was causing traumatic experiences in some of the firefighters and rescue teams. It looked and felt like a war zone deprived of rule of law and mercy, almost nothing that tried to fled, was successful. In the zone of the explosion it was becoming difficult to rescue injured civilians, the rescue teams almost didn't have time to think, it was their training and instincts that were dictating their movements. This event would be forever marked in Spanish history as the deathliest fire ever with 1023 confirmed Deaths and 231 injured.
