Again, translated by the other operative further questioning would begin, but not before a formality.

"We have introduced ourselves, Mr Lamoine, and I have to inform you that you are being further arrested for illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm, and you remain under caution. Earlier this year you were at Cape Town International Airport, I know this because that's the location where you were arrested - can you talk us through the events that lead you to this location and what happened whilst you were there?"

Ignoring the fact that the two had NOT introduced themselves by name, he decided in his mind he would answer everything truthfully.

"Firstly, that firearm is by no means illegal. It was licensed to me by the government of my country. Fully legal, I assure you. Obviously, you are interested in the hit on Mrs... Mrs... Okreke? Okereke? Am I correct on that? I can't remember too well. I had plenty of drinks and smokes on the flight. Anyways, I was sent on escort duty with the diplomat and my senior officer who you have also detained. Mid-flight, we received direct orders from a higher-up to stop the Missus from attending her meeting in South Africa, as to why it is no matter for me to know. She was already out of the plane before we could decide what to do, so we had to shoot her then and there. It was the most effective way to avoid her spilling any info. Then Victor ordered me to help him burn all of the evidence, he said it was all classified and best not to fall into foreign hands. So I once again did as was told, and from there you ought to know the story. I will say your colleagues who apprehended us, unrightfully mind you, were awfully rough. Scraped up my face a good one." He would point towards his cheek which had some shallow scratches on it from the tarmac.

Throughout the conversation notes would continue to be made and expanded upon on paper, the information being provided came somewhat as a shock to the officers whom were anticipating a 'no comment' interview throughout but none the less were keep to bore further. Conversation continues to be translated.

"Okay, thank you. It is important, should this be tendered in evidence, that we recap to establish the full facts of the events that took place so we will revisit revisit some of the thing you have mentioned in some detail...

Firstly you've stated that you were sent on an escort duty with the diplomat and your senior officer. What organisation do you work for, how are your work orders issued and by whom? What did this work order detail? Had you ever been responsible for the protection of this diplomat previously and to what are your responsibilities when you conduct this role, especially abroad? Who is your senior officer, do they work for the same organisation and are issued work orders in the same fashion?

Secondly you state you received direct orders from a higher-up to stop the 'missus' from attending a meeting in South Africa. Were your orders received by the same organisation and person as your initial work order? How were these orders received and what did they detail specifically? Who is 'missus' you mention? Are you aware of what the meeting in South Africa was about? Why was it of importance that this meeting did not go ahead?"

He would scratch the scraggly beard that had grown while he was held in captivity. He would once again speak in French.

"I technically work for the Foreign Affairs Office but in reality, my payroll is directly from the imperial diet. We are directly controlled by our lawmakers, and they assign us where they please when they please. Usually, they pass on a request for guards to one of my superiors, then they pass it down and so on until the required number of guards are found and can be assigned. My senior officer you also have detained here was drawn randomly, and I came along with him. Previously I only have had experience with escort duty within the capital for diet members, this was my first international mission. Not that I've got any promotion appeal once this hits the headlines." He would roll his eyes, sigh, and then continue.

"We were ordered to escort the diplomat into the city, then closely follow her in case an incident occurred. Considering the country was not too long ago annexed by a foreign power abusing its own strength, I assume the government was rightfully a little cautious. We are also not too well-liked internationally, and so tend to protect our staff rather well. I do believe that even the diplomat had her own handgun, not sure if you found that... anyways, Victor is my supervisor. He has years of experience in private security and is a pretty big name in our ranks. I'm apprenticing under him right now until I can prove myself worthy of taking on my own apprentice. Not that that will ever happen, for obvious reasons." He would make an exasperated facial expression.

"The missus is the diplomat. Her name isn't the easiest to understand, I was raised in French and have trouble with a lot of the local names. It's easier to just refer to her neutrally. Referring to the mid-flight order, it came through the Captain's, should I say Victor's, satellite phone he was assigned. It came through an official line and marked off all of the professional standards, so we took it as an order. As we are taught to. I personally didn't take part in the conversation though, so I don't know much of the details, Victor handled most of it then informed me of our change in our objective afterward. I don't know anything about the meeting though."

He would lean back a bit, before coughing and asking for some water.

"I understand... in respect to the diplomat, the investigation is still ongoing and I have no doubt that in time, if the information you are providing us today is correct, that we will identify the weapon she was allegedly in possession of.

You and Victor were chosen at random for this international assignment by the Foreign Affairs Office. A government department. Correct? Was this the first time you had ever met Victor, or had he been a superior officer in previous assignments? is your relationship purely professional or would you consider yourselves friends? Partners? Whilst I understand that together your job description appears to be some form of protection detail which is commonplace in international visits around the globe, but specifically what does the training you eluded to involve? Have you received firearms training? Are you well versed in international and domestic laws?

...and how about the diplomat, 'missus', I know this was your first international assignment but had you met her previously? What was your opinion of her? Had there been much direct contact with her through this particular escort assignment?

Going back to your initial account, you mention that you had no option but to shoot her, the diplomat, then and there. What exactly did Victor tell you after his satellite call? Did he tell you to consider the use of lethal force? Did anything he told you help you rationalise that decision?"

"Yes, he was chosen at random. He picked me to come along with him. I've known him for a number of years, since our nation became independent and the office I work under was established I have been working in an apprenticeship under Victor. We've come to know each other pretty well and will drink together on occasion, but Victor likes to keep it relatively professional. But yes we know each other, and our relationship is somewhat tight. Also, yes, the Foreign Affairs Office is a government institution as I said before. Get our orders usually straight from the lawmakers. As for training, I served in the Congolese People's Guard fighting for the Emperor before he gained control, and got some good firearms and sabatoge experience there. Once I was selected for this role I was given further arms training, CQC training, and weapon concealment training. The laws are not for me to handle, any fallout is handled by the lawmakers."

He would cough a few times, wiping his lips.

"I honestly had never met the diplomat prior to this mission, never even heard of her work until she bombed a meeting in Nigeria. We usually stayed in a separate part of the plane and when we did cross paths we didn't really say any words. Cant say I've held a single conversation with her. Not my place anyways. Victor said we had to eliminate her, and make her disappear. We tried to poison her but she opted for alcohol instead of her water, so that fell through. We were still holding out on another plan when we landed. At that point, our best option was killing her on the spot before she could compromise the nation, as Victor put it. We always planned to use lethal force."

He would cough another few times, asking once again for some water.

"For the benefit of the tape: National Security Office operative three-six-nine-nine is leaving the room."

At this point the officer left in order to get the water requested but this did not pause the interview, as the French speaking operative continued with his line of questioning.

"Poison is an interesting option for your choice of 'elimination'. What exactly did you use in an attempt to poison her? and who was in possession of this poison? Why? Is it something often carried on international visits? I note from the way you speak about the diplomat is almost inhuman... do you have any remorse for her murder? do you have any regret whatsoever?

When you made the decision to open fire in an international airport had you considered the potential for cross fire? had you considered the risk to civilian life or even the political implications of committing a murder, or even an act of terror, on foreign soil whilst you act on behalf of your government? Has something like this ever happened before or is this the first time an order of 'elimination' as you so delicately put it has ever been issued?

You mentioned in your initial account that this was a way to prevent her 'spilling any info' - what do you mean by that? what would she have to spill and to whom? and was this risk of spilled information a contributing factor to the fire started on the aircraft? what were you burning?"

"For the contents of the poison, I have no clue, Victor produced it from one of his bags. It was a clear vial, about ye big," He pinched his pointer finger and thumb about 2 inches apart, "filled with some sort of liquid. No clue why he had it in his kit, and once again this is my first international mission so I would not know. As for the diplomat, I knew nothing about her - she was pretty cold on the plane too - and we received direct orders that made it clear she was an enemy to the people. I would have no more or less regret killing a Hutu terrorist than that woman, as far as I'm concerned.

"Now, crossfire we were in no way afraid of. We were on the ramp, not in a terminal, the only other person reasonably within danger was the guard who was a few hundred feet away at best. As for the repercussions... again, as stated, that's the government's job to solve. And, once again, not that I know of it hasn't happened before but then again something like this I wouldn't be told about.

"The Information known to our diplomat is, well, unknown to me... All I know is that direct orders demanded she be eliminated for that reason. The information issue was also the reason we burned the documents on the plane... We were simply covering all possible bases that ought to be covered."

The agent would return to the room with a small plastic cup of cold water which would be passed over the table to the officer.

"For the benefit of the tape: National Security Office operative three-six-nine-nine has returned to the room."

"You have provided an extensive account this afternoon. You have made a number of comments surrounding the incident that unfolded in Cape Town International Airport... Mr Lamoine you have acknowledged you were within an international airport and that you unlawfully used an unregistered firearm within this airport to enact a premeditated murder on a diplomat before intentionally establishing a fire within an aircraft parked at the gate; and it would be reasonable to assume that your actions would cause a substantial national security event.

Do you contest any part of that summary?"

He would thank the man for the water, before drinking the whole cup in one or two gulps.

"To repeat myself, the weapons were licensed and issued to me by my government for my duty. As for if the shooting was legal, you'll have to bring that up with the lawmakers. I did not commit murder, I followed orders. As for the fire, we were also following orders, destroying sensitive information that we could not allow to fall into your hands. A substantial national security event? Hardly."

The agent would nod, taking an extensive system of notes at the end of his notepad before briefing looking to his counterpart for approving body language, head then respond to to the gentleman in a clear fashion, audible to the tape recording especially.

"Mr Lamoine, that's the end of our questioning for now. The time is now 1400hrs and I am concluding this interview." he states before pressing a button on the digital recording which is followed by a loud audible beep signifying that the room is no longer being audio or video recorded. This prompts the agents to stand from their desk and begin to remove the handcuffs from the detainee in a fashion which would ensure complete control of his arms should he then attempt to resist. One officer would keep the detainee in a loose wrist lock in the event swift control methods be required.

"You'll be escorted back to your cell whilst we arrange transfer to a secure facility." he states before taking he detainee back to his cell and locking the door behind him.
