ThaiHub
ThaiHub is Thailand’s leading internal pornography video-sharing website and mobile application. Developed by an unknown group of programmers since 2001, the platform has over one million daily users. Currently, it is one of the most visited websites in Thailand, and four million mobile phones have installed its application. ThaiHub allows registered users to upload and share their sexually explicit content in photographic, video, and audio forms. The Thai Constitution, according to a court verdict in 2002, protects Thai citizens’ right to freely create and distribute pornographic works as the court considers such content an artistic and creative form of personal and collective expression.
Since the Feminist Socialist Coalition took control of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security in 2003, the Thai State and the National Ethical Oversight Board have since regulated ThaiHub. Confederal agreements prohibit users from sharing and owning sexually explicit content involving minors and revenge pornography. The platform hosts the annual ThaiHub Award event to celebrate individuals producing community-favorite artistic and creative pornographic content.
Additionally, since the passage of the Comprehensive Sex Education Act in September 2003, ThaiHub has been the Ministry of Education’s main partner. By the overwhelming majority of community assemblies, the platform has been coordinating the teaching of sex education in Thai primary and secondary education. Although international observers might view ThaiHub primarily as a pornographic website, opinion polls have consistently shown that 89% of Thai citizens perceive the platform as providing the best cooperative sex education solution since 2004. The previous first-rank holder was the Ministry of Education before it ceded the expertise to ThaiHub.
As ThaiHub requires users to register with national ID cards, now available with the E-Government Superapp, developers have made two versions of the webpage and application. For those under 18 and parental guidance, the platform provides a user-friendly and safe-for-work environment where children and adolescents can learn about sex education online outside school. Culturally, the socialist education system introduces safe sex practices starting at the age of 13. For those reaching the age of consent, ThaiHub allows such registered users to watch, produce, and share sexually explicit content.
