The next steps depend on whether your side has additional proposals, given the constraints we currently face. Our Department will have extensive coordination ahead as a result of this meeting.” He smiled, a gesture of both reassurance and determination.

"I think we've covered all that we wish to cover in this meeting now. All of those agreements will be deposited into the National Archives of Australia (Department of Communications and the Arts). We will get our relationship re-assessed by DFAT as one which is negative to one which is now neutral. Though don't let that misguide you. We will disagree where we must, cooperate where we can. That is the mantra we will take with Thailand. We're still a western-aligned power and the United States is still our primary military partner."
