To the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy,

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Thailand extends its highest regards to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Italy and has the honor to express Thailand's aspiration to deepen bilateral relations rooted in sovereign equality, mutual respect, and transparency.

As nations with histories marked by resilience in overcoming the challenges of authoritarian ideologies during the Second World War, Thailand and Italy stand united in their commitment to ensuring that such oppressive movements never find footholds in our societies again. This shared resolve underscores our dedication to promoting universal human rights and fostering international cooperation free from ideological divisions. Thailand strongly believes that by uniting around the principles of mutual understanding and the advancement of humanity, the global community can achieve critical objectives such as eradicating poverty and realizing sustainability.

In this spirit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand proposes an official visit to Italy by a high-level delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Sukhumbhand Paribatra. This initiative would exemplify our nations' collective vision of transcending historical divides to build a future where all states work collaboratively for the shared prosperity of humanity. Thailand looks forward to Italy’s favorable response to this proposal, as it would signal a reaffirmation of our joint commitment to justice, liberty, and equality on the global stage.

Sincerely,

Panthipha Iamsuttha Ekarohit

Your Excellency,

Thank you for your kind message, while we must admit we have some reservations about governments openly identifying as Communist considering our recent experiences, we are willing to keep an open mind and recognize that not all forms of leftist ideology are by definition authoritarian. As a result we are willing to engage with you diplomatically.

You are hereby invited to send a diplomatic delegation to Rome where you will be received by my Office.

Yours sincerely,
Livia Contarini,
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Bossza007

Thailand acknowledges the Kingdom of Italy's concerns regarding the ideological currents associated with communism and related schools of thought. We deeply regret that certain factions, once perceived as allies in the pursuit of a just, equitable, and democratic world, engaged in actions that violated fundamental principles of justice and human dignity. These incidents are a solemn reminder of the complexity and diversity inherent within leftist ideologies, which encompass a wide spectrum of perspectives, often divergent and irreconcilable. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends its profound gratitude to the Italian Government for demonstrating openness and a spirit of constructive engagement in its dialogue with Thailand.

Sincerely,

Panthipha Iamsuttha Ekarohit

Thai Deputy Foreign Minister Sukhumbhand Paribatra rarely ventured abroad as a true representative of his country, a fact that seemed almost intentional. Since the rise of specialized foreign affairs departments, his role had morphed into that of a glorified paper-pusher—coordinating policies crafted by faceless local community assemblies of villages he barely knew existed. Yet today broke the monotony. His smartphone buzzed with a notification from the ‘Democracy’ superapp, delivering an unexpected directive. A decision, hashed out three days earlier under the watchful eye of Director-General Panthipha Iamsuttha Ekarohit of European Affairs, assigned him to lead a high-level delegation to Italy. He blinked at the message, recalling how a late-night party with the Bangkok Governor had left him blissfully unaware of this meeting. This wasn’t routine red tape. It was a diplomatic mission to Rome—a city he had secretly planned to visit on recreational leave available to all citizens. As he digested the news, a mix of elation and trepidation washed over him. Rome’s allure was undeniable, but this trip also meant engaging in the grand chessboard of geopolitics. He briefly entertained the idea of seeking advice from the French Ambassador at the airport before facing his Italian counterparts, but the moment passed. Instead, he sighed, letting the irony settle in: his dream vacation now tangled with the threads of foreign diplomacy.

After four chaotic days of frantic preparation for his official visit to Italy, Deputy Foreign Minister Sukhumbhand Paribatra couldn’t stop questioning why the timeframe had been so absurdly short. His transman assistant, Sompong, reminded him, with a pointed look, that it was entirely his fault for partying all night instead of attending the critical meeting. The ethical board was now investigating his absence because he hadn’t filed the required absentee form through the secure channel. “How do they even know I didn’t submit it?” he asked indignantly. Sompong’s expression was a mix of amusement and exasperation. “Comrade Sukhumbhand, you were literally the only person not there.” Faced with the undeniable truth, Sukhumbhand admitted to himself that he might have been taking his role too lightly. Before leaving for Suvarnabhumi Airport, he made his way to Foreign Minister Surakiart Sathirathai’s office. As he settled into a chair, he asked tentatively, “Do you think I should use the Ministry’s telemedicine service?” Surakiart leaned back with a wry smile. “Comrade, there’s nothing wrong with partying. We all need to unwind. The issue is, you’re supposed to take my place when I’m unavailable. Remember? That’s what we agreed when we joined Comrade Thaksin’s administration six years ago.” With a small laugh, Surakiart slid a coffee-flavored candy across the desk. Sukhumbhand hesitated for a moment before accepting it, recognizing the unspoken gesture of camaraderie. It was a subtle reminder that they were all in this together—chaos and all.

Arriving at the international airport via the public mass rapid transit system, Sukhumbhand and his delegation boarded a chartered Airbus A350-900, one of the latest additions to Thai Airways Cooperatives’ fleet. Curious, he asked the pilot why the internal workers’ council had chosen this model. The answer was as pragmatic as it was democratic: a group of aviation enthusiasts within the cooperative had won the previous council elections and conducted an inventory review before deciding on the acquisition. Sukhumbhand nodded thoughtfully, momentarily imagining the endless debates this approach would spark in his Ministry. The airplane ascended into the chilly Bangkok night, its engines slicing through the darkened sky. Below, the sustainable cityscape stretched like a luminous web, its treetops shivering in the wind. As the flight stabilized, Sukhumbhand gazed out the window, watching the city shrink into a constellation of lights. For the first time in years, he noticed the stars glittering clearly above Bangkok—a testament to the success of recent light pollution reduction schemes.

Yet, as the stars filled his vision, his thoughts turned inward. “What if we’re not the most important player in the universe? Can humans find meaning if we’re not the pinnacle of intelligence? Is expanding into space progress—or just an escape?” The infinite void above seemed to whisper back, its silence more haunting than any answer. The hours passed in uneasy contemplation until the pilot’s announcement roused him. The airplane was entering Italian airspace. Outside, the morning sun brushed against the horizon, signaling their approach to Rome Fiumicino Airport. The estimated arrival time was 10 AM local time, and there was no turning back now.
