To whom it may concern,
The Department of Middle East Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Thailand extends its formal greeting to the Kurdish Democratic League (KDL). We are honored to be initiating this consequential communication.
The Thai government has been observing the unfolding situation in Syria since 2003 and the betrayal experienced by the Kurdish people, in their struggle for self-determination, profoundly troubled the Thai people. We are a confederacy of self-governing communes liberated by our founding revolutionaries during the 1998 Thai Revolution. The continued rejection of the Kurdish right to self-determination, to create their nation, resonates intensely with our experience with foreign interference during the early years of our Socialist Republic.
We are extending our hands of solidarity. The spirit of early Kurdish freedom fighters influenced the successful trajectory of our revolution, namely the concept of Democratic Confederalism. Thailand has observed and found that your people are united more than ever, and it is time that the Kurds receive their long-overdue platform to voice their conscience.
Thailand comprehends that the KDL currently governs Northern Syria, a region associated with your cultural heritage. Soon, however, the Russian forces will be marching from the east, their relentless thirst for imperial dominance unwavering. We are coordinating with our allies to achieve a lasting and peaceful resolution to the Syrian Civil War. One thing is clear: such a future can’t manifest alongside continued Russian military occupation. Thailand can provide the Kurdish people military assistance and humanitarian relief if given access to Qamishli Airport.
Please do not take this message as a demand. Thailand unequivocally believes that the Syrian people are the sole arbiter of their destiny and we will immediately cease any communication if requested. However, our commitment to the principle of self-determination is unwavering.
Sincerely,
Nattaphon Khanthahiran
