We, the Government of the Republic of Thailand, hereby formally transmit this electronic communication to inform the esteemed Secretariat of the Global Assembly, under the leadership of Secretary-General Clark Stone, of our decision to withdraw from the Assembly's membership. This decision was reached only after the gravest deliberation.
The Government of Thailand deeply regrets the necessity of this course of action and acknowledges the esteemed standing of the Global Assembly within the international community. While our future participation in international organizations remains under consideration, Thailand reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the principles enshrined in the venerated Charter of the Global Assembly: peace, human rights, justice, and democracy.
We take immense pride in our contributions to the Assembly's work over the past six years. Throughout our membership, Thailand has remained steadfast in its dedication to the Assembly's noble purposes and the betterment of humanity.
While Thailand remains deeply committed to the ideals enshrined in the Global Assembly's Charter, recent developments have caused us to reassess the organization's effectiveness in achieving its core objectives. We are particularly concerned by the growing influence of certain member states on the decision-making process, which risks undermining the principles of equality and multilateralism that underpin the Assembly's work. This concern, unfortunately, compels us to withdraw our membership.
Thailand has, on several occasions, expressed its deep concern regarding the Global Assembly's capacity to address critical international security issues. These concerns stem from instances where the Assembly's response to situations such as the Swedish Occupation of South Africa, the Fourth Indochina War, and the Congolese civil war fell short of expectations. Additionally, Thailand believes the Assembly could have played a more constructive role in facilitating dialogue during the disarmament discussions with the Republic of Turkey and mediating disputes like the Franco-Canadian War. While the recent Tokyo incident is a stark reminder of the importance of swift and decisive action, the Assembly's response, unfortunately, did not reflect this urgency. We are also troubled by the ongoing human rights violations in Myanmar.
Thailand has long championed social progress and reform, as envisioned in the Global Assembly's Charter. However, recent developments have led us to question the Assembly's commitment to these ideals. We are particularly concerned by a perceived shift toward a more conservative approach to global issues, which risks hindering necessary progress. Additionally, the lack of concrete action on dismantling power imbalances within the international community raises concerns regarding the Assembly's dedication to truly fostering equitable social and economic change, as outlined in its founding principles. These factors, unfortunately, compel Thailand to withdraw its membership.
In light of the aforementioned concerns, and with profound regret, the Government of the Republic of Thailand formally announces its withdrawal from the Global Assembly, effective immediately after the acknowledgement by the Global Assembly. We remain hopeful for the Assembly's future and its continued pursuit of global peace and prosperity. We trust that effective channels of communication will be maintained to facilitate a smooth transition.
