this morning in parliament National Democratic MP, Richard Clyde purposed a bill calling for the adaptation of a new national flag in order to capture the essence of Rhodesia free of the imperial birth pains and attachments.

Clyde is quoted as having stated the following - "our country has been nominally independent since 1965 by what reason have we to keep a flag which demonstrates to the world an almist insane and fierce devotion to a dead empire which betrayed us almost half a century ago? Let us face facts and for the sake of future generations render our national identity anew with fresh air."

Mr. Clyde has faced fierce criticism from MPs representing the interests of the ruling Rhodesian Front and the hardliners of The Rhodesian Action Party.
