Former Secretary of Defense Richard "Dick" Cheney has been arrested for the murders that took place at the 2/05 attack on the Capitol as well as treason. In an address from the Rose Garden of the White House, President Gore confirmed that Cheney was the ringleader of a number of businessmen and powerbrokers who conspired to overthrow the federal government and replace it with individuals who are more sympathetic to their cause. The President announced that the Department of Justice and the entire Executive Branch would work with Congress if they decided to hold a formal investigation.
On February 5, 1997 a number of explosive devices were used to destroy the House Chamber of the Capitol Building during President Clinton's first State of the Union since his reelection. This attack was perpetrated by the aforementioned conspirators, led by Cheney, who called it "Operation Guillotine". President Clinton, the head of every federal department and most agencies, most of the Supreme Court, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, every member of the House of Representatives and every senator but one were instantly murdered, along with guests, dignitaries, and security.
While almost the entire elected leadership of the federal government had been killed in less than a few seconds, there were a few remaining survivors including: then Vice President Al Gore, then Senator Benjamin Valentine Sinclair, and then Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Clarence Thomas. According to President Gore, all three men were instrumental in holding the country together and rebuilding the federal government. After a new Senate was appointed by the governors, President Gore selected Senator Sinclair to be Vice President, and to be the first Independent to hold that position.
While it is still unclear how they were obtained, The Times can confirm that the conspirators had gotten their hands on one or more dirty bombs or weapons of mass destruction. Yesterday, in a last-ditch attempt to destroy the federal government, one of those weapons was launched on a ballistic missile at Washington D.C. Within seconds of it being launched, the Air Force was able to shoot down the missile; the Department of Defense declined to comment how the missile was shot down. Special forces from the military and federal government arrested Cheney at his home in Nebraska, and he was brought into federal custody. He is currently at an undisclosed location.
Several dozen other conspirators were involved in this attack from multiple Fortune 500 companies and well-known "Old Money" families. The FBI, CIA, and NSA have all declined to comment as to what information they had on the 2/05 attack before it took place. All three agencies stated that they would be "fully participating in any congressional investigations into the 2/05 on our nation."
The White House issued a statement which read, in part, "The Department of Justice will release more non-sensitive details in the day to come so that Americans have a better understanding of events from the past few years. What has happened is long and complicated, but everyone deserves to know what happened, and why it happened."
In three days, President Gore and House Speaker George W. Bush will be holding their second and final presidential debate on the topic of "Domestic Policy". The Times can confirm that yesterday and today's events will be covered at the debate in some way.
