The Sultan Is Home

"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to 'Early Bird', the daily current affairs programme that always catches the metaphorical worm. Earlier this morning, Mr. Süleyman Osmanoğlu III, the current head of The Osman Dynasty and 'The Sultan' of The Ottoman Restoration Movement, arrived in Istanbul, after he was forced into exile in the aftermath of The Bosnian Embassy Siege instigated by the former president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He made a statement illustrating that he was overjoyed to hear that Erdoğan had been deposed without blood being spilt, and hoped that this will allow Turkey to begin a new chapter in its history. Whether that includes a return to an old chapter, where The Osman Dynasty rule as monarchs, is yet to be seen. Proponents of The Restoration Movement are eager to push forward with their agenda, but the 'provisional Prime Minister' or Grand Vizier, Admiral Mustafa Zeki Ugurlu, of The Ottomans has made it clear that such a development will only occur if the people wish it. Thus far, opinion polls for 'The Sultan' show him to be overwhelmingly popular, which is only natural after the current head of state was discovered to have perpetrated genocide. Such high approval ratings are already being used by supporters as reason to initiate a referendum on restoring the monarchy as soon as legitimately possible, a move that the head of the military administration, General Erkin Ozmert, did not rule out."

The host, now finished with his opening monologue, turned towards her guests.

"With me in the studio is Kanat Ozberk, monarchist and historian, and Mehmet Akif Ekin, a former member of The Grand National Assembly. Good morning to you both."

The two guests nod and murmur their replies to the greeting.

"Mr. Ozbek, why do you believe that it's right in a modern, secular society, to restore an institution that was abolished 90 years ago?"

"There are a number of reasons," Kanat began. "The first is that there are examples of a functioning constitutional monarchy that are much more stable than a presidential system. The most prominent example is that of The United Kingdom, who have had an uninterrupted monarchy, if one disregards The Commonwealth of 1649-1660, for millennia. Indeed, it is my humble opinion that a constitutional monarchy is more stable for the simple reason that the royal family, whoever has that honour, has a lot to lose if they were to become popular. Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of The United Kingdom, is one of the richest landowners on earth due to her royal estate and land portfolio. Unlike a president, who can just be voted out of office at the next election with no real penalty to them, a monarch, if abolished, loses everything. Power, status and, usually, wealth too, will vanish as soon as the proceedings related to their removal are put into motion. With such a fate awaiting them if they don't rule with a benevolent hand, the monarchy, in such a format, is far more stable than an elected office which is consistently occupied by a politically biased individual."

"I see, what do you say to this particular assessment, Mr. Ekin?"

"The issues here is whether it is appropriate to bring back an institution that Turkey has been able to operate without for 90 years, as well as whether it's appropriate to bring back the paraphernalia that comes with restoring The Osman Dynasty and 'The Sultan's' blatant support for Islam. A trait that Turkey has prided itself on since Atatürk was president, was the fact that it became a secular, democratic society, a rarity of the time, and still is to this day. By restoring the monarchy with the current head of The Osman's, we are opening the door to possibly creating a religious state that may unnerve those who do not practice Islam, or religion at all. With the fact that Erdoğan has committed the ultimate evil, I don't think we should rock the apple cart anymore."

"I'm sorry," Kanat replied. "But I must protest. Yes, The Sultan is a religious man, however he is not some Islamic extremist or fundamentalist. In fact, he is The Caliph, which in his case is the title of Steward, not successor of Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Him, of a brand new interpretation of Islam. While the tumultuous nature of the past few months has prevented him from going into detail as to what this fourth school of thought for Islam entails, it is abundantly clear that it is far more liberal than the other schools of thought. Even then, restoring the monarchy does not mean that the government will adopt an official state religion. A constitutional monarchy means we can firmly demarcate where government begins and ends, which can include matters of religion too."

"Alright, thank you both for those intriguing views," The host remarked. "We're going to go to a brief commercial break, but for those viewing at home, and abroad, please give us a call, or text us, at the number available on screen. Also included is our Facebook and Twitter addresses, which you can use to get in touch with #EarlyBird. See you in just a moment."

A text from an anonymous German, clearly nationalist in ideals, was sent to the chat show a few minutes into the commercial break. The text clearly showed that the man was fervently in favor of Adolf Hitler, and furthermore, was likely a Neo-Nazi scumbag.
"Clearly this man is a terrorist. He instigated civil war in order to secure power for himself. I wouldn't call him a man of peace, just like I wouldn't call the Führer a man of evil. Your 'Sultan' is nothing more than another Stalin or Mao Zedong."
