Dear Prime Minister Harrington (Nathan ),

I am writing to you in my capacity as Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and Canada, particularly in light of what I perceive as a period of relatively limited engagement between our two nations in recent years.

I see now as an opportunity to explore bilateral relations and, depending on your thoughts, seek closer cooperation and collaboration. I would welcome the opportunity to identify appropriate channels through which we might engage in further discussion, gain a deeper understanding of your government’s foreign policy priorities and interests, and explore where our two countries may be able to support and benefit one another.

It is true that there has been limited correspondence between our two nations within recent years - especially seeing that we both share the same Head of State this is a huge missed opportunity. I am unfortunately unable to meet with you directly due to pre-planned arrangements. However, I would like to offer a meeting with our Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance, Julian Harrow. We would be most willing to welcome you to a bilateral meeting in Ottawa, or alternatively Julian would be most amenable to visiting you in London. Thank you for your prompt reply. I fully understand your existing commitments and am grateful for your proposal regarding Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Julian Harrow.

Before making arrangements for a bilateral meeting, I believe it would be beneficial for us to begin with an introductory telephone conversation between my office and Deputy Prime Minister Harrow.

This would allow us to identify key areas of mutual interest and establish an agenda for future discussions.

With the British reply received Julian Harrow would contact the main switchboard within the Ministry of Finance. Within seconds, the call would be transferred on an encrypted line straight to Downing Street.

"Deputy Prime Minister Julian Harrow for Deputy Prime Minister Shaw" The switch board operator would say as the Deputy Prime Minister prepares himself ready for the call.

Alistair waited a few moments. Those brief silences always seemed to stretch on endlessly when the phone rang, even if only a few seconds had passed.

At last, the call was connected.

“Prime Minister,” he said in greeting. “It’s a pleasure to speak with you. I’m Alistair,” he added, his tone informal yet composed. “How are you?” Nathan

"Alistair thank you for your time to take my call. I am well and delighted we can meet to further our international cooperation and support. I hope you are well"

The Deputy Prime Minister took the call in his personal office. He wore his trademark navy suit. Harrow had an athletic appearance for a early 40s political minister and a sharp brown hair cut. A desired approach for the man craving the top dog, and the media attention that comes with it.

"I understand you wished to discuss foreign policy - shall we begin there?"
