OFFICE OF THE UNITED STATES AMBASSADOR
TO THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY

ENCRYPTED MESSAGE
[TR][TD]

TO: Devlet Bahçeli, President of The Republic of Turkey ( Axis12 )
FROM: Aiden Hawkins, United States Ambassador to The Republic of Turkey

Mister President,

The situation between your country and Israel is very distressing. My government is deeply concerned that there could be a massive conflict spanning between several countries which could result in the deaths of tens-of-thousands of people on both sides if this situation continues to develop unchecked. I am sure that you and your government want to avoid violence and are interested in finding diplomatic solutions to problems that can be solved through peaceful negotiations. The White House has instructed me to ask you directly if your government would agree to a cease fire with Israel so that diplomatic options can be explored between Turkey and Israel. I hope to hear back from you soon.

Best Regards,

Aiden Hawkins
United States Ambassador to The Republic of Turkey

Secret

Given the developing situation around the world and the openly hostile attitude that the Republic of Turkey had towards the United States and her allies, the remaining American Embassy staff - including the Ambassador - would leave Turkey. They would operate out of the American Embassy in Rome until it was deemed safe for them to return. All sensitive documents and materials were destroyed before the embassy staff left and took a chartered flight to Rome. The Turkish government would be notified that they were doing this out of an abundance of safety and that the American ambassador could still be reached by direct message or a secure telephone call.

Secret

All American diplomatic staff, including the Ambassador, and all of their families successfully left Turkey and made it to Italy. For now, they would all be working out of the American Embassy to Italy, or the American Embassy to the Holy See. However, officially, the United States had not formally recalled its Ambassador from Turkey. The Ambassador and his staff were holding out hope that the Turkish government would come to their senses and want to prevent any kind of conflict between Turkey and other countries. Nevertheless, the American Ambassador to Turkey continued to do everything they could to prepare for diplomatic outcomes.
