OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF DEFENSE​

The United States Federal Government has been in direct discussions with the Italian government as well as the Holy See. The Italian government has requested that the United States assist with securing Italian airspace and Italian waters. Effective immediately, the United States is enforcing a no-fly zone over Italian airspace and is enforcing a no-go zone in Italian territorial waters - these both apply to military aircraft and military vessels that are not Italian or American. The United States armed forces are fully prepared to use force to enforce the no-fly and no-go zones and will not hesitate to do so. It is the desire of the Italian government to stop foreign intervention in Italy and the Vatican City State, and we will assist them with this mission.​
