CONTEXT​

The Chief of Naval Operations drew up a highly classified special operation with other admirals in the Navy. The USS Jimmy Carter was to be the centerpiece of the operation. The operation was considered so top secret that the captain and crew was not told who they were picking up or why. The captain only knew that he would be briefed once he had picked up the individuals that his submarine would be transporting to a location that he was not aware of. At Pearl Harbor, the crew and officers prepared for the deployment of the Jimmy Carter by arming her and putting all necessary equipment in place.​

PACIFIC DEPLOYMENT ORDERS​

The USS Jimmy Carter departed from Pearl Harbor at approximately two in the morning with all hands and weapons systems as previously described. She took the appropriate amount of food, water, and supplies for the following journey. She took the following route from Hawaii, to the Coast of Alaska, through the Northwest Passage, down through Baffin Bay and to the Labrador Sea, and finally down the Atlantic seaboard to Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads in Virginia. Throughout this journey she would remain approximately 900 feet below the surface of the ocean, but she would not get closer than 100 feet to the bottom of the sea. Throughout this journey, she would avoid colliding with the seafloor or underwater mountains and other geography at all costs. Throughout this journey, while out at sea, she would travel at a speed of 20 knots.
