DEPLOYMENT ORDERS |
|
CONTEXT
As a result of international concern over the questionable presence of Thai troops in the French territory of New Caledonia, the President has ordered the United States Coast Guard to conduct operations in the vicinity of New Caledonia. The objective of this mission would be to monitor the situation and provide assistance to British or other European forces in the event of an emergency. The cutters and associated vessels would be cautious of Thai military forces. Coast Guard forces in Guam and Hawaii were prepared for this deployment as well as a Navy destroyer and oiler. Captain Elliot Clark of the Navy, aboard the USS John S. McCain, has been placed in operational command of Task Force 201.
