CONTEXT​

Due to the extraordinary Bushfire catastrophe ongoing in the Australian state of Victoria, and the direct appeal for assistance from the Premier of Victoria, the U.S. Forest Service was directed to coordinate a multi-agency response. Assets from the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Coast Guard, and Texas Air National Guard were brought together to provide firefighting services to Australia to help battle the fires in Victoria. Exceptional measures were taken to mobilize all units within 12-24 hours so that they could be deployed to Australia as soon as possible and ensure that they had an impact in preventing more devastation. While military assets would ultimately continue to report to their chain of command, operations regarding the disaster in Australia would ultimately go through the U.S. Forest Service and the relevant individuals in the Australian government. The Forest Service would keep the Australian Government, and specifically the government of Victoria, up to date on what assets were being deployed to Australia for this operation, where they were being deployed, and when they would arrive.​
