Since we're entering a new era of heightened security risks, the Directorate of Security and Civil Protection Services has been tasked to acquire a medium to long range air-defense system to be stationed at critical points within the Vatican City State. We would thus like to inquire whether the National/Norwegian Advanced Surface to Air Missile System (NASAMS) is available for sale, since it has been the designated as the desired air-defense to protect our air space.

The Kingdom of Norway normally does not sell equipment to foreign nations; however, the Council of State has informed me that an exception could be made for Vatican City. We would be happy to sell one or more of the NASAMS systems to you, provided that it is not resoled to anyone else. The price for one NASAMS is $33,750,000. Please inform me how many the Vatican would like to purchase.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs has asked if it would be possible to arrange a future meeting between His Majesty King Oskar and His Holiness Pope Peter II at the Vatican?

We're grateful that the Kingdom of Norway is willing to sell some of its NASAMS to provide for the security of the Vatican City State and most importantly, the Holy See itself, and thus wishes to reassure thee that it would never reselll systems such as these, fully aware of the current times where trust between various nations need to be regained at all costs. It's to our understanding that based on the dimensions of the Vatican City, 1 battery consisting of 1 fire-control center, 1 radar and 3 launcher is sufficient enough to provide secure coverage of our limited air space, unless His Excellency is naturally of a different opinion?

Cardinal Angelo Sodano, Cardinal Secretary of State, has also instructed me to relay the message about the possibility of His Majesty the King of Norway and His Holiness the Pope to meet each other in the future, in order to strengthen our nations' relations and especially that of Christendom itself, with the firm knowledge that we must continue to strive Christian Unity despite our differences, when we all believe in the same God.

I am happy to hear that the possibility of a meeting between His Holiness and His Majesty will be an opportunity we can take advantage of in the future. I will be sure to pass this information along to the Foreign Ministry, and the Office of The King. Also, your assumptions are correct. From our estimations, one battery should be sufficient to provide protection for the Vatican, on top of whatever protection the Roman Empire will have for Rome itself.

Once you can confirm to me that the funds have been transferred, we will begin production on the system and have it sent to Rome relatively soon. If I may be so bold, I recommend that you inform the Roman government that the Vatican has purchased a defensive weapons system from Norway, and that we will be delivering it to an airport near Rome, whereby it can then be taken by truck to the Vatican. If you take this course, we will coordinate things with the Roman government.

I can hereby confirm that the transaction has been completed and we're thus looking forward to receiving an upcoming delivery of the capable NASAMS battery. The Roman government shall also receive the news of this in advance in order to make preparations for receiving the shipment directly from the most convenient airport available once it has arrived on Italian soil. It has been a pleasure conducting business that favors both parties, and hopefully we shall do so once more in the future.
