The egyptian national team was in the midst of a transition. Historically, african and arab nations where very relegate in terms of competitiveness in world football, and more often than not, their participations in major worldwide events, such as the World Cup resulted in embarrassing scores and very poor performances. But this was now beginning to change. With globalization and an easier access for the common people to TV's and to the match of leading competitions such as the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga, more and more egyptians became vivid football fans, and began practicing this sport more seriously. Large groups of children and teens began playing in clubs and eventually.

Fast forward a few years and the young egyptian squad was eager to prove their progress in the field, and nothing better for this than a test match against one of the world leading powers in football: Brazil.

They arrived early in the morning in Japan and were directly moved to the hotel, were they rested until the late afternoon. After that they set off to a nearby training field to perform some first acclimation drills and light exercises to activate the body for the upcoming match. Everything in terms of formation and tactics was already clear and had been extensively practiced back in Cairo the week prior to the flight.

Obviously, clearly outperformed and outclassed by the big brazilian stars, they had a very defensive strategy, and where betting on a quick counterattack, but they would also be happy with a tie...

The Brazilian National Team was considered one of the most well respected national teams out there, Being one of the only ones to have participated in all of the editions of the World Cup, coming out as the champion last year after winning against the Italian National Team during the penalties of the 1994 World Cup Finals.

Now, one year later, the Brazilians arrived in Japan for the friendlies match against Egypt, the team was optimistic that they could deliver a great result, the team had prepared and practised the tactics and formation back at home in Rio, the strategy of the Brazilians was for a strong defence, a focus on ball possession, accurate passes, crossings and of attacking at the correct moment.

After resting in the Hotel, the "Canarinhos" moved to a training field to review their strategy one final time and train the players for the upcoming match.

Back at home, many Brazilians were tuning in on their Radios and Televisions to watch the coming match between the two Nations.

While we wait for halftime to end in our our first matchup between Egypt and Brazil, we would like to turn our attention to the second game in this bout of friendlies. The Netherlands national team against the Vietnamese Golden Dragons. Will the Dutch Eleven be enough to slay the dragons? Let's find out!

Although not a completely disastrous first half, the team could improve, the Egyptians were showing to be a very good opponent, however, there was still time, the coach, Zagallo, spoke some words of encouragement for the team.

"
We've faced stronger opponents in the last year boys, Come on, let's give it everything we have, the people are rooting for the "Canarinhos", and we'll give them what they want!"

The team's strategy would remain similar to the first half, Strong Defenses, with a bigger focus in Attacking in the correct moments and with precision through the Egyptian Defenses whenever possible.

The Dutch Eleven, having previously arrived in Japan to ensure they were well rested and accustomed to their new surroundings, would be busy preparing for the match ahead. In the changing room the manager would implement a tactic which the team had utilised many times before. It called for a solid defence from which to build on, while focusing attacks to the flanks by using the speed of the players to get the ball forward before crossing it into the center where tall Dutch strikers could deliver the finishing blow.

Having spent the second half trying to push through the Egyptian defences, they did so with a push through by José Roberto Gama de Oliveira, the number 7 then passed the ball to Romário de Souza Faria, allowing the number 11 to score Brazil's goal against the "Pharaos", the two players celebrated the goal together, for the rest of the second half the team defended itself against the Egyptian attack, with the Match ending, the Brazilians waved to the public and shook hands with the Egyptians.

Back at home, the Brazilian population cheered along with the victory of the "Canarinhos", while not the result they expected, a Victory is a Victory nonetheless, there was always room for improvement, but today, the Victory was to Brazil.

The egyptian players, after having performed a very convincing and solid first time, began to feel the stress and attrition of keeping up with one of the worlds top nations. Despite the efforts of the manager, who performed the 3 substitutions before the 65th min to try keep up the fitness, it was too much for the ambitious but experienced Egyptian players.

A failed clearance by the egyptian defense conceded the ball to the skillful brazilian forwards, which quickly overran the last line of defense of the caught-unprepared "pharaohs" and with an clear assist of the number 7, brazilian star Romario managed to beat the egyptian keeper.

After that, there was not really time to react, and the referee ended the match with a 0-1 defeat for the africans.

After exchanging jerseys, back in the changing room, the Manager encouraged his players about the overall positive performance they ha rounded up, managing to hold against the reigning World Champion for almost an entire match and only loosing by 1 goal.

There was certainly light in the future for the egyptian national football team.

Another defensive battle here at World Cup Soccer. The Dutch Eleven are like noble knights trying to slay these fearsome Golden Dragons. Each team's defense is proving too strong. Who will succeed in the end? We will see what halftime adjustments the teams make.
