The South African Grand Prix has been confirmed as the first event of the season. It will be held mid may 1997 (next sunday OOC). The South African organization team is able to conduct any type of promotional activity or RP. Good roleplay might be awarded with additional driver skill and car development points, for both organization and participants.

Team Mercedes-AMG F1 would arrive at Kyalami a few days before racing began. Team Manager Kaspar Martell was coming into his first season as manager and wanted to get a head start on things. They had decided a few weeks ago to go with their star new driver Morgen Luxemburg for the South African Grand Prix. She had proven herself in the rigorous testing that they had done over the winter. This testing was done not only to help get the driver ready, but more so to get the car ready.

Tires was the main thing on his mind. They had issues with endurance during testing. They had amazing grip in the corners but not so much as to slow the car down on the straights. But the brakes were hard on them and they didn't last as long as he would like. Morgen didn't mind though. She trusted the car even if she was maybe a little too hard on its shoes. Her first couple of laps around Kyalami felt great. She was slightly irritated with herself coming into the corner known as the "Clubhouse". The turn is deceptive on the camber and she was breaking too late. She would need study this corner in greater detail before race day.

With practice over, Kaspar Martell called together a team meeting to go over the data they had accumulated through the day. They had decided on a more aggressive pit strategy in order to account for the tires. There might have been an issue with hub bearing on the right rear of the car. He ordered it to be replaced by the pit crew just in case. He wanted no surprises this close to the start. With everything accounted for they had early dinner and headed back to the hotel. Morgen Luxemburg was nervous about what surprises the race might have in store for her but she was eager to prove herself and earn a spot on that podium.

Antarctica Motor Racing would arrive in South Africa on Monday to prepare their paddock for the Race Weekend, The Team Manager, Alex Ribeiro, focused on building a stable and positive work environment with his team and drivers.

Firstly, the two drivers would walk through the race track with their engineers, deciding the best strategy to take and the best line to take into the turns, sharing some laughs and chuckles along the way.

In Friday practice, the car's engine would come alive, once properly fitted, the two cars would leave the paddocks, revealing the Green, White and Red livery to those in the crowd.

The drivers initially took the track slowly, throughout the day, their speed quickened and quickened, the car felt fairly balanced and on a good pace, by the end of the practice sessions, the drivers would return to the Paddock, looking over the data acquired over the 3 practice sessions, with Friday practice over, the pit crew would continue to train with the car like they had been doing back in the car's factory before the start of the season.

AFRICAN FACE-OFF WITH ROYAL OUTCOME

Transvaal - South Africa. The first race of the season could not have been more thrilling. Expectations where high at a dry sunday afternoon in beautiful South Africa, with all eyes focused on the season favorite Mercedes-AMG F1 and its young star driver Morgen Luxemburg, but many fans and experts where also excited to see how the local heroes Judy Scheckter and Guy Tunmer in their Team Gunston's Springboks 1 and 2. However, after 72 intense laps, the final results showed a very different panorama and promises a season full of upsets and cinderella stories.

Against the odds (and the betting houses), and out of most peoples plans, the winner of the 1997 South African Grand Prix was Garuda F1's Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn, who will be cashing the race prize of 100M. Starting from the midfield, and with no major expectations and pressure on him, the rattanasakosin driver mastered the thigh corners of the Kyalami Circuit to beat the british runner-up Alex Fox in his Nexus by a short margin of 7.9 seconds. Fox at the same time secured P2 in the race by beating favorite Morgen Luxemburg (Mercedes-AMG F1) by 6.6 seconds and relegating him to P3.

Further back, and missing the podium, Felipe da Costa Nascimento had an uneventful race, being oupacedby the race leaders with a gap to P3 of over 15 seconds, but also remaining out of reach of any potential rival trying to overtake, with Tuero's Pampa Energia, Hiu Lin's Golden Dragon and the other Nexus (Jason Brown) crossing the checkered flag in that order with a difference of 2.5 seconds between each other, after a hard fought battle.

Finally, Team Norway Racing managed to secure its first point of the season by finishing 8th with Harald Huysman, barely 0.8 seconds in front of Jody Schekter. With both Springboks out of the points, spirits might be low at Team Gunston, considering this was their home race. On the other hand, this race will yield a lot of data to work in the cars, and we can expect an improved performance next week at the Rattanakosin GP.

The only two cars that were unable to finish the race were Ayla Agren's (power unit problems) Norse and Barichello's A97 (braking failure).

This first race left us a very even panorama, with only one team (Nexus F1) managing to get both of its drivers into the points. We will see you next week for the first ever IRC Formula One Eevent in the Rattanakosin Kingdom, at the Bira Circuit, where unexpected championship leader Vajiralongkorn will try to confirm this first race wasn't just luck, and give his fans at his home race something to cheer for.

At the grand prix, the South African authorities would welcome the cars and drivers arriving into AFB Waterkloof which was nearby to the track and had the facilities for large cargo aircraft. South African Police would escort cars and drivers to the track, the security risk was rated as HIGH due to terrorist attacks or civil unrest. While the grand prix was happening, protests would begin forming nearby in Barbeque Downs/Plooysville. Reservists from the South African Police and regular officers would be deployed, they would be armed and willing and would be in Casspir IMVs. Most of the protesters were blacks who made their way from nearby townships such as Soweto and from the nearby Bantustans of Bophuthatswana and KwaNdebele. The police would have absolutely no restraint, as was the style of the Apartheid regime. They would be armed with shotguns. They would have no restraints when protestors throw rocks and molotov cocktails at them. Police commanders would yell over the microphones; "GAAN TERUG NA JOU FOKKEN HUISE" (Go back to your fucking homes). MBB Bo 105s would be deployed from AFB Swartkop and would conduct aerial reconnaissance over the track and the nearby protests.

The African National Congress based out of Zimbabwe, with their leader Thabo Mbeki would demand that the international community boycott the South African Grand Prix due to the Apartheid policies and police brutality.

The race was a rollercoaster for the Brazilian team.

Both cars were running in the top 10, however, by the final half of the race, Barrichello would run into brake failures while in the exit of turn 7, having to retire from the race in a disappointing finish to his Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, Antarctica's 2nd Driver, Felipe, would push his A97 to its limits to report a Top 5 finish.

"
Alright Felipe, P4, P4, Good job Buddy."

"
Woohoo! Congratulations everyone on the top 5, I'm sorry about what happened to Rubens but let's build on this great first result!"

With the Grand Prix over, the team would begin to pack up their things for the next round of the Championship, meanwhile, the lessons learned in this Grand Prix would help the team continue developing and working on the car.

"I lifted." She said to herself. Morgen Luxemburg sat down in an old oil stained chair in the back of the Mercedes F1 Garage looking at a hazy computer monitor. The smell of gasoline and burnt rubber hung thick in the air. She had been here, going over the in-car race information since the race ended. She closely examined each detail looking for every mistake she made. "If you stare at that thing for too long you'll go blind ya know!" joked Odo Roth. He had walked into the garage looking for his young team mate and he could see she was taking a third place finish way harder than she should. "I lifted on the last lap on The Crocodiles." she exclaimed clearly frustrated with herself. "You finished third in your first F1 race Morgen. You should be proud!" Odo explained. Clearly irritated Morgen waived him off and start to check the pit times again. There must be a way to shave off a few more seconds on the first few stops, she thought. Odo sighed and slowly walked over to the computer terminal and switched off the monitor. "Hey! I gotta recheck those tire pressures on lap 40 we could have gotten more out of that set!" she shouted. "Morgen you will get em next time kid. But come now, you need to enjoy your third place with the team. They are having a big party outside!" Odo said trying to get his teammate to stop obsessing over every detail of the previous race. Morgan stopped for a second and realized she might be being a bit ridiculous. She was still wearing her racing gear from earlier. She hadn't eaten since this morning. She was exhausted. "Your right Odo." she sighed. She stood up, pushed the old chair in and began walked outside with Odo. As she flicked off the light she thought. I'll be back first thing in the morning.

FREE PRACTICE.

The Antarctica Motor Racing would arrive in the Rattanakosin Kingdom in the start of the week to set up the team's paddock, with Friday's Free Practice rolling around, the team would release both cars in small periods, to make adjustments and changes to it's set up to fit the Drivers as well as collect data to assist with the car's development.

Both drivers were optimistic about the weekend, with Felipe's high points finish, and the team managing to find the issue that caused Barrichello's crash, the team believed a points finish for both cars was possible.

QUALIFYING.

A frustrated Rubens Barrichello would enter the pits with his car, his frustration could be heard on the Radio.

"
Ugh, *BEEEEEEEP*, Sorry guys...I ran wide."

"
It's okay Rubens, let's just prepare for the big race tomorrow."

Rubens would leave his car, shaking his head as he took off his helmet, staring at his car in frustration...He knew he was better than this, a DNF in the previous race and being eliminated in Q1 and barely being inside a second of the leader, he'd go over the data of the qualification with his race engineer before watching Q2 with the rest of the crew.

Felipe would manage to pull through and be quite close to the leader during the Q1, although some of his pace was lost during Q2, ending up half a second behind them, P7, being close to the front of the pack, Felipe hoped to capitalize on this position to overtake cars in the beginning phases of the race.

He'd pull into the Garage with Qualification over for the day, the crew would make its final check-ups of the car for the race tomorrow...hoping to score a good result.

COLD REIGN IN THE TROPICS

fter a qualification where local favorite, royal and Grand Prix winner last week in South Africa, everything was set for another rattanakosin stained day at the Bira Circuit, and a cause for celebration for the thousands of fans that gathered around the long straits of the race track located in the Pattaya region. The humid and tropical weather however decided to show up by providing a light but steady curtain of rain throughout the second half of the race, something that was expected by the Teams meteorologists, but was impossible to determine before hand in which lap the drops would hit the asphalt, giving chance for speculations and sudden changes of strategies and tyres.

Vajiralongkorn started the race in the lead, followed by the two Nexus, which did surprisingly well this weekend, adapting perfectly to the tropical conditions of the Rattanakosin Kingdom. The first quarter of the race happened with no major changes in positions, with Hui Lin's Golden Dragon ending up against the security fences after trying to overtake Barichello in a audacious maneuver at the entrance of turn 11, resulting in the chinese having to abandon the race. Lin's attempt seemed however to have an positive effect on the Brazilian's driving, who decided to go full in and improved his pace considerably, just as his team mate Da Costa Nascimento, resulting in both gaining 2 and 3 positions respectively in since race start.

Lap 19 marked the next DNF of the race, when german youngster went wide in turn 4 in an attempt to close the gap to Guy Tunmer and had a bumpy ride over the gravel, damaging the left side of his front wing, which unfortunately broke off 400 meters later, got stuck under the left front tire causing a puncture and damage to the suspension. Luxemburg managed to get the damaged Mercedes into the pits but after a close inspection his engineers decided to turn off the engine since the damage was too big to continue.

Guy Tunmer suffered a similar fate only 4 laps later when he had to leave the track to park his car outside of the race boundaries after a power unit failure (most probably an overheating issue, considering the smoke that triggered the stewards to intervene with fire extinguishers). This provoked a safety car that immediately led the teams to call their drivers in to the pits to take advantage of the situation.

With the safety car back in, the race resumed with the Crown Prince still in the lead, followed by Jason Brown - after having overtaken team mate Fox - and Fox himself on P3. Meanwhile Odo Roth and da Costa Nascimento started a battle for P4 that would last for about 6 laps, when the brazilian used his cars superior acceleration to overtake the german on the starting strait, and going now for the british. Further back, Barichello also gained positions by surpassing Jody Scheckter and the two argentine Pampa's who were clearly struggling to find their pace today.

Finally, in lap 44 rain started to fall. In an attempt to gain advantage, Marcos Siebert and Esteban Tuero remained on the track with their medium tires, while the rest of the pack entered pits to change for wet in order to finish the race. This proved to be a mistake, since the light blue cars turned out to be very difficult to control and in a matter of few minutes both Siebert and Tuero were being driven back to the pits in a golf cart, tying up a catastrophic day for the south american team.

In this difficult conditions, lap 50 can be marked as the game changing moment. Jason Brown, P2 at that moment, accelerated to lap the norwegian Huysman, who failed to give enough space bumping his front left tire against the right side of the Nexus when the british was closing into the apex with his car 1 meter ahead of the norwegian. Although it was the norge's fault, nothing could be done for Brown, who had to give up on his podium chances and abandon the race. The team radio managed to capture the british "remarks" towards the Team Norway racer (calling him an "wanker").

The race contnue under this conditions, with the brazilians having a spectacular pace, with da Costa Nascimento overtaking Vajiralongkorn and Alex Fox, who remained loyal to their initial strategy and resulted in both of them being outrun by the brazilians, the other rattanakosin, Sinee Chalor and Odo Roth (who managed to finish a very solid and consiste race).

The last 5 laps were marked by a head to head battle between Nascimento and Chalor, who swapped position 2 times, before under the heat of the fight Chalor locked up his right tires and lost valuable seconds, giving the brazilianhis first Grand Prix victory. Further back Odo Roth maintained his position in front of the other brazilian to close the podium, also winning in his efforts the extra point for fastest lap. The crown prince and Fox, winner and runner up last week, remained together in P5 and P6, gaining some decent points to remain among the championshipfront runners.

In P7, and runner up on the driver of the day vote, Ayla Agren managed to gain 8 positions (starting the race 15th) to add points to the norwegian team's tally. In P9, the chinese Xue Wen prevented Schekter's Springbok from gaining the first points for Team Gunston, giving at least something to show for Golden Dragon Racing this rainy day.

With the championship heating up, we hope to see you next weekend for the German Grand Prix, the Nürburgring classic, where Luxemburg and Roth will fight to see who is the N° 1 driver in Mercedes.

GLOBO TV BROADCAST.

(OOC: Narration in Portuguese for immersion purposes)
TV Globo is the Brazilian Broadcasting channel responsible for Broadcasting the IRC to Brazil, Galvão Bueno was the announcer for the race, Narrating the race and it's occurrences, the final few laps were dramatic and anxiety-filled to the Brazilians at home, who watched as the duo came closer and closer to the finish.

"
Felipe persegue Chalor!

FELIPE PASSA CHALOR E RECUPERA A LIDERANÇA DO GRANDE PREMIO DO RATTANAKSIN! O BRASIL VAI A LOUCURA!!!
"

With Felipe extending his lead over the Garuda, the white flag would be waved across the start-finish straight.

"
Felipe passa a pista e começa a ultima volta do Grande Prémio!

FELIPE! FELIPE! FELIPE NASCIMENTO DO BRASIL!!!!!
"

Galvão cheered as the Brazilian crossed the line as many Brazilians did at home, it had been 4 years since a Brazilian won in the IRC, making this victory even more special.

RACE

The Brazilians raced hard, showing great pace at the very start of the race, with both drivers moving up the pack heading into turn 1

The Rest of the race was just as special, with Nascimento moving into P4 after a long battle with Odo Roth ended in a spectacular drag race that ended with the German giving into the Brazilian, who overtook the Mercedes MB-AMG-880. Barrichello would not go silently, overtaking 3 Cars on his way to the Top 5.

With the race continuing, the Antarctic Motor Racing Team would go for a double pitstop to fit in Wet tires, seeing the conditions only worsening, it would be useless to put Intermediates, the duo would show a formidable pace, Barrichello posting the fastest lap of the entire day and passing another duo of cars!

Felipe however, would give Brazil an unforgettable Race, beating Chalor by 6 seconds and getting the race win, he'd take a Brazilian Imperial flag and wave it as he made one final slow lap across the track with the flag fluttering on the air!

Rubens would be unable to get a podium finish, but would still be in a satisfiable P4, his best finish so far.

The Team Radios, however, were the best part.

"
Alright Rubens, P4! Good job man, fantastic drive."

"
Woo! Good job to the entire Team, and Felipe for the Race win!"

Barrichello would stop his car on the designated spot.

Meanwhile...

"
Felipe-"

"
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! OH MY GOD! OH MY *BLEEP* GOD! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! YEEEAH!"

The radio would be followed by more screams and shouts of joy as Felipe punched the air and celebrated in his car.

The Team meanwhile, celebrated with joy in their paddock and pit spot, embracing and high fiving each other.

As Felipe parked his car, he punched the air, jumping off his car and running to his team, hugging and celebrating with them, Barrichello too would come running towards the Rookie, hugging his teammate out of joy.

With the drivers coming up onto the Podium, Felipe would come rushing into the podium, holding up the Imperial flag as he stood in the highest podium position, tears coming down his face and mixing in with the rain, using the flag to wipe away the water from his face, before standing at attention while the anthem played.

With his trophy received, he'd raise it up high for his whole team as they cheered him on...And then came the fun part, the Champagne shower!

The season did not start very well for the Cordoba based argentine F1 team. After two races they only managed to pull a meager 5th place as its best results and a catastrophic last race weekend where it was unable to even bring any of its cars to the checkered flag after some serious strategy mistakes. This obviously put an enormous pressure on Team Principal Mazzacane, who had to explain to sponsors and board directors why the team was underperforming, having started the season at the same point as most of its competitors.

The car seems to be capable of producing similar results as the competition, and the drivers look capable enough to be competitive, but there were some serious strategy issues to be addressed.

Therefore, as a quick solution to at least improve the points to be collected next sunday in Germany, Pampa Energia F1 decided to hire former Ferrari driver Carlos Reutemann as a consultant. Reutemann will travel with the rest of the team to each event and be rpesent at the pit wall to have direct intervention in the race strategy.

The goal for next weekend was to try to finish with both cars in the points.

GOLDEN SURPRISE PREVENTS GERMAN 1-2 LOCKDOWN

Just when everybody was beginning to identify the candidates, an eventful german Grand Prix in the Formula One classic Nürburgring turned everything around, with Golden Dragon Racing stealing the show with a stellar performance from Hui Lin, who relegated youngster Luxemburg and veteran Roth to P2 and P3. The podium was very disputed during the whole race, specially the battle for P1, between Luxemburg and Lin, with the chinese ultimately prevailing and negating the germans to secure a 1-2 in their home Grand Prix. Despite this, the point boost pushes Mercedes up the Constructors ranking as they benefit from the very bad performance today of Garuda F1 (0 points with the Crown Prince ending in P10 and last weeks winner Chalor on P12) and Antarctica Motor Racing, which only managed to pull 1 point with Barichello's P10 after Da Costa Nascimento had to abandon the race due to a cooland leakage after taken a curb too hard and hitting the floor of his green vehicle.

To complete the surprinsing race, Ayla Agren (Team Norway Racing) pulled a fantastic P4, doubling the points she had accumulated in the first 2 races. Closely following, Team Gunston's Jody Scheckter finally gave the south african team its first points in F1 with its P5 and by setting the fastest lap (+1) in a dramatic last lap.

Pampa Energia keeps underperforming, but at least managed to get both of their cars to the finish line and snatching 3 points with Esteban Tuero, to try get away from the bottom of the constructors table.

Nexus F1 was also one of the dissapointments today, with a DNF from Alex Fox, losing important ground in the drivers championship and with Jason Brown only managing a P7.

With these results, the Drivers Chmpionship is completely open, and no clear favorite can be determined. On the Constructors competition, things are a little different with Mercedes now leading the competition in front of Garuda and Antarctica, with a comfortable distance from Nexus F1 coming in 4th at the moment.

Ayla Ågren was only the sixth female to ever turn to the professional Formula One which is the highest class of international single-seater auto racing, it is a male-dominated sport and Ayla made history for Norway by becoming the first ever Norwegian female driver in the Formula One league and one of the youngest at that as she was only 19 years old which was something that Ayla was proud of. She not only had the support of Norway behind her but that of its Scandinavian counterpart, Sweden as she held dual nationality.

News Reporter: How does it feel coming into the Formula One league in an industry which is dominated by male drivers and support staff?

Ayla Ågren: In a way, it feels good knowing that I can follow in history of the females that have entered the sport. I have always dreamed about becoming a Formula One driver. I've watched Formula One since I was a young kid and it was actually my father who took me to the local track and then that was when my love grew for the sport even more and then that was when I decided that I wanted to do this professionally and eventually compete with the male drivers and that has what has brought me here today.

News Reporter: Are you surprised at how well Team Norway Racing is doing at the events?

Ayla Ågren: I'm not surprised, no. We always came to the races with the intention of pushing ourselves to what we can do, I would admit that we are underdogs because of the sheer talent that is on show and Norway does not have a strong background in Formula One racing but honestly, we have a great team behind us and we are going to continue to build up this amazing team and hopefully down the line, many victories will come to Team Norway Racing and we can make everyone back in Norway proud.

BARICHELLO WINS IN CHINA AND MERCEDES IS SLIPS AWAY. VAJIRALONGKORN TO THE HOSPITAL

The first IRC F1 year has officially reached midseason, and by now it is clearly possible to identify who will be the main title contenders. Shanghai was this weekends battleground, where Antarctica Motor Racing recovered from a dissapointing race in the Rattanakosin with a win thanks to Barichello's proficient driving. Teammate Da Costa was however unable to keep up and failed to finish the race, giving the Mercedes the great opportunity to secure the rest of the podium (Roth P2 and Luxemburg P3) and bring home a chunk of points that increases its lead in the Constructors championship.

Shanghai also witnessed the improvement of some teams that had bad season starts, like Team Gunstons, who managed to grab P4 with Josy Scheckter, improving in last weekends P5 and demonstrating with Scheckter is Gunston's #1 Driver. Closely behind, on P5, Team Norway also managed to score a very good result again, with Huysman grabbing the 4 points. Finally, after 3 consecutive races unable to finish the race with both cars, Pampa Energia secured two point finishes with Tueron on P6 and Siebert P7. P8 was once again good news for the south african team, with Tunmer closing the point-positions.

On the other side, we had to see a strangely bad performance from Nexus F1, who failed to reach the points in China, and the local drivers, Wen and Lin, who had to suffer a sad P12, having being lapped twice and a DNF form Lin on lap 54.

The low point of the day however was the the severe crash in lap 22 that involved Crown Prince Vajrilalongkorn. The winner of this years South African GP lost control of his vehicle on turn 6 and his car flipped over as it got stuck on the gravel, while sliding at high speed. The race was suspended for 7 laps with the safety car out and the Crown Prince was immediatly flown to the nearest hospital, where news about its health are still being held back.

With this troubled GP, the racing circus is set to remain in China, for next weekends GP in Macau. At the moment Mercedes leads comfortably, but we saw how quickly things can change from one race to the other.

Hope to see you all next weekend!

The final few laps were dramatic and anxiety-filled to the Brazilians at home, with Galvão Bueno's Narration, Barrichello's Victory charge was even more special.

E AI VEM BARRICHELLO! É O FINAL DA PROVA! RUBENS! RUBENS! RUBENS BARRICHELLO DO BRASIIIIL!!!"

RACE

The Brazilians started off the race relatively well, Barrichello managing to carefully climb up to P4, while Felipe fell down to P6 from P4, having a terrible start.

Barrichello kept up with the top 3, maintaining a good pace with the other cars in front...However, the same couldn't be said for Felipe however, the Rookie Drove his car well and pushed it hard...perhaps a little too hard, as he attempted to pass a car on the outside of turn 6, he oversteered, causing his car to become stuck in the Gravel trap, the frustrated Brazilian threw his wheel off his car out of rage.

"**** **** **** FILHO DA ****" The Brazilian yelled out on the team's radio.

With Felipe out of the race, it was up to Barrichello to give the team a good result...and did he deliver.

Following the Red Flag caused by the horrific crash of the Crown Prince, Barrichello suddenly found himself sandwiched between the two Mercedes and up in P2, with the race restarted, Barrichello managed to keep up with Odo Roth in P1, the duo opening a significant gap over the rest of the field, Following the 2nd Series of Pitstops, the Brazilian managed to pass Odo and take the lead of the Grand Prix, where he stayed for the remnant of the Race, He'd come across the line to record his 1st win in the entire season, and the team's 2nd.

"Congratulations Barichello! P1 P1!"

"Ahahaha! Thank you guys! Thank you so much!"

Barrichello would punch the air as he celebrated. with the car stopped, he'd rush to celebrate with the rest of his team, and with the other drivers as they got onto the podium, it had been another great weekend for the Brazilians, who took all of the great data collected during the weekend to try and improve their performance even further going into the next round in Macau.
