DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS |
SECURITY CLASSIFICATION: PROTECTED (Encrypted) |
2 July 1996 Ryutaro Hashimoto Prime Minister of Japan 2-3-1 Nagatachō Chiyoda City, Tokyo Metropolis JAPAN 100-8968 |
Dear Mr. Hashimoto, It is with great pleasure that I reach out to you and your government. In the post-war era our nations have grown a relationship that many in the Asia-Pacific revere. A relationship built on friendship, trust and cooperation that ensures that our interests and values are secure in a region sometimes fraught with instability. Being the only two governments in the Asia-Pacific to be actively involved on the world stage I reach out to you so that our governments may form a lasting friendship. I hope to be able to visit Japan and meet with you and other ministers to discuss matters of trade, defence and broader cooperation particularly relating to issues of Iraq. I hope to hear from you soon. Yours Sincerely, Dr. Carmen Lawrence. |
