At the stated deadline for the vote the Deputy Secretary-General announced, "The voting period is now officially closed. The results will be announced shortly." The conference officers proceeded with the counting of the submitted votes, presenting the results to the Deputy Secretary-General.

Taking note of the results, Han Dae-Jung looked up to address the Assembly. "Distinguished delegates, the results of the election are as follows: A total of nine votes were cast, of which seven were valid, while two were invalidated as they were submitted after the voting period had closed. Mr. Shashi Tharoor has received four votes, meeting the required majority and is therefore duly elected."

"I extend my sincere congratulations to Mr. Shashi Tharoor on his election. I am confident that he will bring dedication and professionalism to this vital role as he presides over the Assembly. I would also like to express my gratitude to Ms. Condoleezza Rice, whose strong support reflects the strength and merit of her candidacy. Finally, I thank the Member States for their cooperation and commitment throughout this process."

"Distinguished delegates, with the election of two exceptional individuals to their respective roles of Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General, we have reached the end of today’s agenda which brings the tenth session of the Assembly to it's conclusion. The Assembly will reconvene for the 1st plenary meeting of the 11th session on the second Tuesday of September. This meeting will open with the general debate, during which heads of state and government are invited to address the Assembly."

"It has been my profound honour to serve this Assembly over the past years. As we mourn the loss of Mr. Stone, I believe that the election of Ms Cresson and Mr. Shashi Tharoor signifies the start of a new and promising chapter for the Global Assembly. I urge all Member States to actively engage in the vital work of this Organisation. Without your unwavering commitment to dialogue, peace, and prosperity, our world would undoubtedly be a darker place. I commend each of you for your dedication and thank you for your service."
