"Around twenty to forty minutes. That being said, power is still up and running here in the Reichstag. We could hold out for another hour if we needed."

"Good, good," Doctor mason remarked. "Make sure to take it slow when driving. Stay to around 15 miles an hour, so that if your vehicles slip or crash, it won't be horrific. Also, if you can, get a snowplough to escort you. They can clear the road in front of the convoy."

"I will do so. Keep His Majesty safe please," Celina pleaded, hoping to god that she was entrusting the Kaiser's life in the right hands.

"I'll give my life, if that's what's needed," He reassured her, before bidding her farewell and hanging up. The doctor then entered his car, and sat beside The Kaiser.

"They've almost finished evacuating The Reichstag, Your Majesty. My assistant, Miss Elizabeth Shaw, is helping your Household Minister get transport for the rest. As for here, we're all ready to head south."

"Then let's go," the Kaiser softly ordered, his expression unreadable as he stared at the fogged up window to the outside world. He didn't want to stay any longer, as he feared that any longer time spent in this frozen tundra would only make things worse.

Doctor Mason nodded before leaning forward and tapping the driver's shoulder, signalling for them to begin their departure from Berlin.

In the hours that passed, many German citizens that had fled to Turkey had already filed grants of asylum as instructed by Turkish officials. Temporary visa slips and grants of asylum would be handed out to members of the Turkish government upon arrival to Mersin. The Kaiser, after reuniting with his family prior to leaving for Mersin, would hope to god that the people that were not able to make it out before the storm consumed them were alright and staying strong, but in the following weeks, he would start gaining reports from the Federal Government of the disgruntlement and distress that civilians were facing, but on the bright side, the German Reich was already starting to recover, and Georg could only smile fondly at the thoughts of local leaders taking matters into their hands.

As disappointed as he was in himself and his government for not taking the matter as seriously as they should've, he was more proud of his local leaders than he could've ever been. Hearing the story of the Mayor of Berlin and his daring rescue of a snowed-in retirement community made him consider giving the man an honor that would normally be reserved for the military...but he thought it best to first speak with the man before presenting an honor to him.

When arriving in Mersin, the Kaiser had no idea where to go, only going where he was directed by Turkish officials as he hoped and prayed that he could eventually find a way to speak with his people again. Given that his children were not yet over the age of 17, they did not have passports, and they were instead granted temporary visas.

Upon reading the application, the border guard glanced at the family before pushing a couple more forms towards the parents.

"Your Majesties, you will have to fill out these forms on behalf of your children," He explained. "I'm sure you wouldn't go abroad with your children under normal circumstances without a passport. Sorry for the inconvenience. Once you're finished, you will also need to be measured and weighed before your papers can be completed."

While the Kaiser was quick to start filling out the forms for his children, his wife was not too terribly happy.

"You must be joking! These are children! You cannot expect them to sign such forms! Our oldest here isn't even 13, and our youngest are still in primary!"

"That's why you are to fill them out on their behalf," The official replied. "I stated as such before, as their parents, you are therefore the individuals who should take care of these particular issues on their behalf."

The Kaiser, knowing that there was nothing that could be done for it, pulled his wife aside and handed the gentleman the papers as she continued to try and argue.

"My apologies, sir...And you stated that we needed to be measured and weighed as well?" he asked for clarification.

"That and your fingerprints must be taken also," The official explained, while reading the forms he'd been provided. "Forgive me for the stringent checks, but you must understand that this is a most unusual event. The Ministry Of Home Affairs had to quickly respond. Usually the documents you are filling out are for political asylum seekers, not refugees from the weather we've been experiencing. However, the requirements are there, and it's inevitable that we shall learn from the experience that is being gained here today. Once again, I am sorry for the inconvenience and the stringent requirements, but this a rather slap-dash solution."

The inspector then looked up and leaned closer towards his side of the plate glass.

"Between you and me... I heard there was talk of not allowing you, or anyone else, into Turkey at all. Some diplomatic bigwig was able to pull some strings and make them open the border. However, the cost was that it's purely temporary. Once the situation has blown over, there'll be calls by those seeking to keep Turkey's border closed in the first place to have you all sent back to your native lands. Regardless, I'm just one cog in the machine... And an insignificant one at that. Anywho, could you each of you step forward onto the footprints in front of the booth? I will be able to read your individual heights and weights from there, thank you."

"Of course, sir," the Kaiser said with a bit of a nervous chuckle. It seemed that he and the German people were as unwanted here as they were not wanting to leave. After he and his family gave their fingerprints, they went to go get weighed and measured. Upon stepping on the scale, the Kaiser was found to be 71.12 kilograms, and he measured 1.85 meters in height. His wife, Queen Sophie, was just slightly shorter by 0.05 meters, but was significantly lighter at about 60 kilograms. His three children, going from oldest to youngest, were 1.64 meters for Carl, 1.42 meters for Louis, and 1.38 meters for Emma; for their weights, Carl was 48.21 kilograms, Louis was 40 kilograms even, and Emma was 32 kilograms even.

With the forms completed, the inspector examined them one final time, his hand hovering over a pair of stamps, one with a red handle, the other green. After a minute of silent reading, he grasped the green stamp and granted access to Turkey for the family of five.

"Cause no trouble," He ordered, while handing the papers back to them. "And welcome to Turkey!"

With passport control cleared, the family were free to venture into the rest of the airport, where Doctor Mason was waiting for them.

As his family moved to grab what luggage they had, the Kaiser went over to greet the ambassador to Germany.
"Doctor," he nodded to Mason as he walked up to him. "I would have thought you would have gone to Istanbul."

"The choice was there, however I made a pledge to Your Chancellor that I would look after you," He explained. "As such, my duty is to remain by your side, not by the side of The Turkish Government."

The doctor then reached out and helped the family with their luggage.

"Regardless, His Majesty, The Sultan, has offered his home to you as a place of refuge. He would be deeply honoured if you would accept and come with me to Istanbul."

"O-of course, sir," the Kaiser sighed in relief, going to grab his family before following the doctor to where he was needed to go.

The doctor guided the family to taxi he had been able to summon to the port. The destination was to the local train station for them to hitch a ride, first class, to Istanbul. Suffice to say, the train, due to the long distance, would be equipped with sleeper cars for the long distance passengers, such as themselves.

"I'm glad you accepted," Doctor Mason remarked. "His Majesty will be most pleased. As for your family, I have purchased tickets for every seat and berth in the first class carriage and sleeper car of a train heading to Istanbul, so that you have the two carriages to yourselves. You may be refugees now, but you are still entitled to the privacy and dignity you deserve as royalty."
