John Harrington was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Edward Harrington, a shipyard worker, and Mary Harrington (née Fitzpatrick), a teacher. Entry into Politics
Harrington first entered politics in 1997, winning the Conservative Party nomination for the riding of Halifax West.
